Other ways to age up sims?

Since there's a bug not allowing sims to age up, and I am experiencing this with my sims, are there other ways of aging sims up?

I want to keep the child's completed aspiration and the teen's reward traits upon age up.

I know you can enter cas.fulleditmode but I don't believe the teen gets their reward traits from it

Is there another way?

Note: Sometimes different cake interactions work while others don't eg "taste frosting" works when "blow out candles" just makes the sim jump backwards and not age up, but this time, none of the three cake interactions are working. 

I'm unsure if it was a mod, but I had a "age sim on lot" option at one time, was this a mod or? Because I tried that by removing the sim from household and having another sim control the cake, but the option was no longer there
