Pie Menu, CAS and drag function error after the latest patches

I haven't opened my game for more than a month.  After updating the Dec 2024 patch, I started to play it again, and I found out the pie menu is not working - that means, when I'm clicking on a sim, or an object, the pie menu is not showing.

Not only the pie menu, the "drag" function of the game is also wrong.

In play mode, when I want to drag an object, the view immediately swifts to the edge of that neighborhood.  However, I can drag the object in the personal inventory to sell.  Except for the objects can be set as heirlooms, the pie menu is not showing properly in the inventory items (i.e. cannot choose to eat the fruit or vegetable).

In build mode, I can't buy or drag any object out of list.

The CAS mode is also making me headache.  I'm not able to change the clothes of my sim.  For example, my sim is wearing pajama in the CAS, I want to change him into daily clothing, and I found out the list of clothing (Daily/Formal/Sport/Sleeping/Party/Swimming/Summer/Winter) is missing from the CAS.

In order to fix the game, I have done the below:

  1. Repair the game
  2. 50/50 testing
  3. Remove all my mods and localthumbcache.package, resource.cfg
  4. Uninstall the game, then install it again
  5. Play with another save

However, no changes.

Do you guys have the same problem before?  How to fix it?

Thanks!

  • Try the following

    • Close the game
    • Rename Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4 to Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4_Old
    • Repair the game
    • Start the game. All your content will be gone now as the game created a new folder. All your saves/.. is still in the old folder so not to worry.
    • Start a new save game
    • Check if you still have the error
    • Report back with your results for further steps on how to get your stuff back.

    I have tried your method.

Under this case, I get my pie menu back, can drag items and edit in CAS.

    That's good to hear.

You can now start to copy back things from Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4_Old to the new Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4 folder that was created.

First only copy (I suggest to copy so you can go back in case anything goes wrong along the way) the content of the folder Saves (these are your save games). If you are prompted if want to overwrite a save, decide if you want to keep that testing save you just made or not. If not, just overwrite if, if you want to keep it, rename the save to a different number that isn't taken.

Test just your save game with nothing else added back. If that works, you can start copying back the rest. If not, check back.

You will need the following folders

    - Tray (your households and lots you have saved to library)- Custom Music (if you added any)
    - Screenshots (if you've taken any)
    - Videos (if you've taken any)
    - ConfigOverride (if you made any although I recommend redoing those)
    - Options(.ini) (although I recommend to just redo your settings in the game)

Now test again. If that still works, you can put back your mods. Put them back in groups and make sure they are still compatible with the game.

All other files are recreated and not needed.
