[PS4] direct control

Just bought a PS4 and bought the Sims 4. Now I am trying to play but it will only let me point and click. I have no direct control. I have checked every setting and I do not see how to change this. I am really close to giving up and selling the system and game and this point since I cant return it. Is there a way to change it to direct control? I would love to go back to enjoying the game so I don't lose out on money by selling these items back. Thank you

gameplay issue

You control your Sims by selecting them at the bottom of the screen and then telling them what they should do by clicking on another Sim or an item they can use. Doing this will open a dialog with possible interaction.
