Re: Cannot research some plants

@jupkmn What level of gardening skill does your Sim have? Your Sim will begin with no gardening skill, and will therefore have neither the option of taking a cutting or researching the plants:

However, this Sim with no gardening skill does have the option to water a plant, IF it's in need of watering (note that the money tree in the first screenshot was not in need of watering):

Once this Sim has watered a plant you will get a message that they have acquired the skill of gardening and you will see the level 1 gardening in their skills:

Researching the plant is not an available option until level 2 gardening, and taking a cutting is not available until level 5 of gardening.

As you can see in this screenshot, a Sim in this household with level 10 gardening has all of these options available to them:

There is information about what tasks are available at each level of gardening in this article: https://www.carls-sims-4-guide.com/skills/gardening/

If your Sim's skill level is not the issue, you may want to test without your Mods/CC, if you have any.

@SheriGR My sim has level 4 in gardening. She can research plants, but somehow some plants cannot be researched. I know you cannot do it when you just planted them and they are a pile of dirt, but the plants I am trying are in they full form. As you can see in the screenshot, there is one plant I can research and the other one I cannot. They are both in the same stage of growth.

@jupkmn Hmmm... Can you upload/share the plants that are not showing all options in a room in the gallery and share a link here to the room (or share the name of the room and your username in the gallery, if its different from the name you use here) so I can try placing them in my game and see if I can reproduce the issue?

@SheriGRGardening is so buggy lately. I tried to put the plants in a room so I didn't need to share the whole lot, and some of them just turned into piles of dirt so I stopped. Can I share the whole lot? It is the gallery, my user is jupkmn and the lot name is "plants".

@jupkmn I just played your home for about 5-6 days in-game. Upon placing the home most (but not all) of the in-season plants, along with the out-of-season ones (I have seasons in my game, so a bunch of the plants you had stayed a dirt pile the whole time, as this happens when out of season.) I didn't realize until some of the Sim days passed that the plants on the right side of the house were trees - one in-season for me and one not. Neither of them turned to a tree yet the whole time I tested, plus at least one in-season plant still hadn't revived from dirt (though the rest that were in-season did), but all of that dirt fidgetiness (and some of the plant bugginess) I expect you're aware of...

All that said, I still had the expected interactions come up per gardening level for the same two Sims in my other test:

    • The Sim at gardening level 1 could only water (if it needed watering) or uproot.
    • The Sim at gardening level 10 could research or take a cutting (plus the additional options per level) from all plants that were in full bloom and in season.

Do you have Mods/CC, and have you tested this issue with them removed, along with the cache file? (I'm adding directions for this in the spoiler tag below - you could start a start a new game save and place this home and test in that... no need to open or save within any game saves that you have going, just as a way of confirming if any Mods/CC are causing the issue:

    Spoiler
Try moving the Mods folder from your "The Sims 4" folder [Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4] to your desktop (save it for reference) and delete the localthumbcache.package file in your “The Sims 4” folder. Then check in a new game save to see if this issue is still occurring. You can test without saving in order to identify which CC/Mods are causing the issue, then remove or add updated version(s) of the Mod/CC causing the issue.

@SheriGR Hi, I did not have time to play these days. But this week I will test with base game only and without mods. Thank you for your time.

@SheriGR Hi, I played with base game only and noticed that I cannot research plants after fertilizing, harvesting or selling the harvest. Some plants stayed like that for many in-game days, to the point the evolution bar was ready to evolve, but the "evolve" action was also not available when clicking the plant. Weirdly enough the plants were ok when I saved the lot and them put it anywhere. For now, the only way I found to kind of correct this, is using "testingcheats on", clicking on the plant and setting it to "adult", it seems to do some kind of reset and all the actions become available. Note that the plants that I cannot do the actions are not dirt piles, they look like normal adult plants, but apparently they act like dirt piles. Some plants becomes dirt piles after fertilizing, but not all.
  • I was having the same issue until I noticed that you can only research the plants that are basically not hibernating they have to be in the same season you're in if you're in spring and you're trying to research a summer plant etc it won't let you it has to be of the same season
