Are you able to force the EA app to update via the steps here and then give it a shot please? 

This took me a few attempts but it did download an update - now when I run the updater it tells me the EA app is up to date (ran it twice to be absolutely sure and it said this both times).

I repeated all the suggested steps in the opening post again after it said it was updated, and still no change the Sims 4, and I still get looping errors when attempting to send a report (I've been resending them for about 10 minutes now to no avail).

That's really strange, I'm wondering if this could be related to your privacy settings.

If you click this link and log in, are both of the boxes checked at the top of the Privacy Settings page? If not, can you try clicking both boxes and let me know if that changes anything? You may need to clear the EA app cache after doing so. 

Now those settings should not impact the login event at all, but I've seen some odd behavior in the past that did end up being related to those checkboxes that we were able to resolve once we figured out the marketing opt ins were the culprit.

Ticked them on and hit update, cleared cache on app and game both (just to be sure), no change. Toggled back off and back on again, cleared cache, logged out/in – nothing, no change to the main menu at all, and error reports still error loop endlessly.

I’m probably just gonna admit defeat tbh. I really wanted that version of the Cats and Dogs hair without the dip dye, but good grief it is not worth this.
