I spent a couple of sim weeks writing a song. After that I gave up on the music business.

way too long. Johnny Cash once told the story of waking from a dream one night, and then inspired, he wrote 38 verses of what would become his hit song "The Man Comes Around."
There is a mod at ModTheSIms.com for faster song writing. [links to mod sites are not allowed]
Joan Jett wrote Cherry Bomb in about 20 minutes.
