Re: Is there a way to own a horse but have it live elsewhere?

@MighyMsHolmes

The horse is part of your household so the answer is no.

    @MighyMsHolmes Suly Suly, there are a couple of horsey workarounds here.

    First you can go into Manage Households and if you haven't used up all 8 household slots, add a new family member using genetics. Add a sibling, parent for example and a horse. Then place the new family member and the horse on a new lot with a stable. You can visit them and take the horse out riding. You can carry out some horse care tasks while visiting such as grooming but you can't direct them to eat from feeders or play with a ball. So purchase/harvest some fruit and veg before you go and you can Hand Feed it to them if they are hungry. If their fun need is low, since you can't tell them to play it helps to go riding or to tell them jokes. The reason I say do this with a family member is that the relationship will be higher and the genetics method works better for adding one I find. I use this method quite a bit and have Sims with family stables. I also added a daughter for Sienna and she visits to help take care of Flapjack.

    Another option is a Community Stable. See the tips on this thread:

    I know that @JonaO703 already has a beautiful community ranch in the gallery created specifically for this purpose. It's called Roan Riders Ranch. I've added a link here with the info about it so you can see how it works, it's on page 34

    So your Sims can still go horse riding even if they don't have space for one.

    @simsplayer818 @MighyMsHolmes I did a similar thing to what you mentioned, simsplayer818. I moved the 'dad' horse in with a friend, and I can then go to my Sim's 'relationships' list and click the 'dad' horse there and see the options below... so I then choose to "Invite to Hangout at Current Lot". He will then come over and hang out on the lot for the day. It's not perfect, but it works. In my case I moved the horse into another of my households that was not a family member and that was not placed on a lot with a barn, etc. for the horse (see screenshot)... so in my case going to the other Sim's lot to interact with him would not be an option. I think using simsplayer818's idea of moving the horse in with a family member with a barn you can use to also visit them is a great idea, even if you use both methods to interact with them and continue the relationship. In my case, my biggest concern was my goal of keeping the relationship up with him and the 'mom' and 'baby', so I wanted him on the lot for those purposes.

    I was thinking that with your goals in mind, using the workaround that @simsplayer818 mentioned is the most primary option, but perhaps keep in mind that you may have some fun playing with inviting the horse to hang out with you sometimes also, even if you have no barn on your lt. Perhaps your Sim could move into a lot next to or near to a lot with training and riding facilities, train/ride where you want, then the horse can go back home to meet it's needs. I think there could be a number of combo methods of doing this that you could have some fun trying out and seeing what works best for you and your goals. Have fun!

  • @SheriGR I forgot about the "invite" option. That reminds me I was able to travel to a different world with a family member's horse for a trip out for the day just like you can do with a friend. They went riding around and then my Sim travelled back to their lot to drop them home safely (even though they'd probably make it home just fine).
    It could be done with a friend's horse but it just seems weird taking them out for the day if they're not family... I don't think I'd appreciate a knock at the door and someone asking if my cat felt like a trip out somewhere!

    @simsplayer818 That's awesome and great to know! I love that there are possibilities to get creative with this, and ways for @MighyMsHolmes to both house and experience various aspects of relationship and activities with their horse with a some of creativity and versatility.

    Thanks for sharing the options... I know I'm glad to know they're there! 🐎
