Re: Protecting NPCs from losing their jobs

@AalyahReed Hello!  I think you're perfectly safe to evict the Scotts.  They likely have a hidden trait that keeps them in their roles as the pub owners.  I wasn't sure so I tested it myself.  First, I evicted the Scotts and then had a sim travel to the Gnome's Arms.  Sarah was behind the bar and had her "Pub Owner" title.  As for adding them to your households, it seems that is okay too.  I went to manage households and moved the Scotts to "My Households".  When my sim went back to the pub, Sarah was there again with her title.

Just to add a bit to that, there are sims who are immortal.  Father Winter is one of them and so is the Grim Reaper.  There may be others but I doubt the Scotts are among them.  If you have aging turned on, I think they will eventually age and die.  I don't know that for sure though.  Only time will tell.  If they do die, maybe they'll come back and run the place as ghosts?  (half-joking)  There are other sims in the game that have roles and I believe they are also protected from the normal culling.  In the Realm of Magic pack, all the sages are homeless.  From Get Famous, there are a number of "homeless" stars, like Dustin Broke.  As long as you don't actively play any of these characters, they should be protected from culling.  Hope this helps and happy gaming!

Edit: I just wanted to add that even if the existing sims with roles die at some point, the game will generate new sims to fulfill those roles.  The gameplay that requires these roles will always be intact.

  • Hello @JonaO703 thank you for replying! I appreciate you taking the time to test what would happen if evicting the Scott family. I'm glad to hear that Sarah retained her role as pub owner. You make a good point about there being some immortal Sims. I guess time will tell if that is the case with the Scotts or not.

I will go ahead with evicting the Scotts and I will also try to move them and Father Winter, etc., to My Households.

    Thanks for your help!

Is it safe to edit NPC in cas? I have read that if you edit them even if you never load the household to play they will lose their roles. I have seen it happen when I edited the hermit in granite falls. She never showed up in the hermits lot again, and was no longer tagged as hermit, she behaved in the same way as a normal NPC. I have seen this happen to sometimes but not always with NPC in certain roles, for example DJ or Librarians. Sometimes when I edit them in cas They never work again in that rol, the game just generates a new random NPC instead. It does not happen always but often enough to be annoying.

@babuchas01 Hello!  I tested with a few of the NPCs with roles and I found that just editing NPC sims in CAS did not strip them of their roles.  First, I used testing cheats to modify Sarah Scott in CAS. I also used manage households to modify her.  Both times, she kept her title as the Pub Owner.  I also edited a couple of the Sages from Realm of Magic and both kept their Sage roles.  Editing did move them to "my households" though.  As for the hermit, this character is randomly generated at the start of every new save and quite possibly you will see a new hermit any time you start a new game.  This likely means the hermit sim has a different set of rules where assigned roles are concerned.  I did not test for librarians and DJs but I think will be treated similarly.

I'm sorry I can't speak to your personal experiences with these NPCs.  I'm just not seeing the same issues in my game.  In general, if you want to continue seeing the same sims fill these roles, I simply suggest not editing them and most certainly don't load and play them.  That will surely strip them of their roles.
