Hi! I wanted to come on here and share a suggestion I’m sure has been brought up hundreds of times, however, I figured bringing more attention to it couldn’t hurt. I think that the gameplay of the Sims 4 would be immensely better if you were able to add grandparents, uncles, cousins & other realistic relatives to the game! And what I mean by this; is in Create a Sim, under the relationships such as the existing “mother/father” or “sibling”… It’d be great to have more relatives and distant members!
@Simmer2029 I would love to be able to do this as well. Though one trick you can try is making & deleting the connecting relative - for example, in CAS, if you’ve made an elder and a kid, and you want the kid to be their grandchild, make another random adult Sim. You needn’t bother styling them. Set them as the kid’s parent, and as the elder’s child. If you check the relationship between elder & kid, you’ll see they’re now properly a grandparent. Delete the parent.
@Simmer2029 Yes! I too would like to be able to set more familial relationships in CAS. If I may, I'd like to take it a bit further. It would be so great if I could create families in CAS and then have a way of setting their relationships in Live Mode. There are cheats and mods that give us the option to add relationship bits but they are somewhat limited in scope. After creating several families, perhaps I could play one of them and visit the others, then click on the sims to mark them as sibling, cousin, aunt, uncle, etc. This would be especially helpful when loading families to a new save that I've played in other saves. I realize this could be a complicated venture where the Simology panel - Genealogy is concerned but I have faith that the Sims team could make it happen. :-)
It would also be great if more of the relationships were displayed in the relationship panel. For example, when I click on my sims' great-grandparents, that relationship isn't displayed, even though it does appear in their Simology panel - Genealogy.
Brendan's great-grandfather is Jona.
But in Brendan's relationship panel, Jona is simply listed as an acquaintance. :-(
I'd like to see this as well. I just added some family members to cover 3 households and it bothers me that I couldn't add Aunt or Uncle to relations by marriage. I can have aunt/uncle/cousin by linking them but my little Sim, Sonny is not related to his mum's brother's wife Odette and his cousin André has no relationship with his dad's sister's husband Jae. I just treated my mum's brother in law the same as if we were blood related. It's the same as in laws for adults. My dad called my mum's brother in law, his brother in law too and everyone I know does the same in their families, but my Sims have no familial relationship with in laws.
It seems like such a simple thing to add, especially since we got fiancé added. I know the family tree part of it might be a bit more complex to add but still, seems doable.
All great ideas! I posted somewhere on Twitter/X at some point about my desire for a genealogical update, where even vampire "families" are tracked. And adoptees are more visible (not that they aren't part of the family, but just so I can see the difference between bio children). Perhaps different colored lines to indicate these different "additions" to the family (again, no way to track vampiric offspring)? I was hoping it would be part of Growing Together, but I do think that pack was fleshed out nicely.
