Run New Tutorial (from Nov 2018 patch) on Existing Sims?

Is there a way to run through the new tutorial with existing Sims? Ultimately, my goal is to gain the new trait on the Sim in my existing save game, without cheats. I successfully created a new Sim, ran through the tutorial (which bugged out on me, but that's a different post) and gained the new trait. I then saved the new Sim to My Gallery and downloaded him to my existing save game, so he's interacting there with the trait. I was hoping that introducing the trait into the save game would give me some option to gain it on my existing Sim, but haven't found any way to do it.

Any ideas? Thanks!

**EDIT:MORE INFO - Since you can't actually get the new trait "Over Achiever" on an existing Sim without using cheats, I thought I'd give a little more detail if you don't know how to use cheats (like me). If you already know how to use cheats, then go ahead with the posted solution. More detail for those who don't have a lot of experience with them:

1. Bring up the cheat window in live mode by pressing the keyboard buttons Ctrl-Shift-C together

2. Type "testingcheats on" (without the quotation marks)  A box will come up underneath the cheat box that says Test Cheats On

3. Type "traits equip_trait FTUE_Over_Achiever" (no quotation marks)

4. Open the Simology tab (press Y) and check that you have the Over Achiever trait listed

5. Type "testingcheats off" (no quotation marks)

6. Press Ctrl-Shift-C again to close the cheats window

If you are not opposed to cheating to get this press Ctrl+Shift+C to open the cheat console enter this: traits equip_trait FTUE_Over_Achiever and press enter.

  • Just wanted to add - I suppose I could upload the existing Sim to My Gallery and start a new save with her, but then doesn't she lose all her possessions? I really don't want to do that unless I can carry at least her personal inventory with her. Her house is filled with stuff, collections and unlocks, and she has almost a million simoleans.

I'm fairly new to TS4, wracking my brain on how to accomplish this... could I upload her, create a new save, gain the trait, then place her in the household with the original Sim, then delete the original Sim? Hmmm... I might try that. Will report back if it works.

To reset Tips go to Game Options | Tutorial and Tips. There you can choose. In the lessons menu you can also choose to review the various lessons.

Hi @jpkarlsen - thanks for the help. I did try resetting tips, and also checked reset tutorial. Resetting tips only, well, resets tips. I'm trying to do the tutorial. Reset tutorial only affects new games. Do you know of a way to run through the new tutorial in an existing save?

I know, but I can't get the tutorial aspiration from the lessons.

Bottom line - I'm trying to get the new Trait - Over-Achiever on my existing Sims.

You should get it by doing the same things you did in the tutorial. But to get the actual tutorial you need to start a new game.

@jpkarlsen - thank you for your help, it's really appreciated. Just to be clear, you are partially correct. To get the actual tutorial, you do need to start a new game. That is the only way to get the new trait (without cheats).

So, the new tutorial and trait can only be had on brand new Sims created in a brand new save. They will keep that trait if you upload them to "My Gallery" and download them to an existing save, but there is no way to get the new trait on existing Sims.

So - the new trait "Over Achiever" can only be assigned to a brand new Sim in a brand new game, and you have to use the tutorial to create and fulfill the new FTUE (First Time User Experience) aspiration that the tutorial creates. You can transfer your new Sim to an existing save game through Manage Worlds and your gallery, but you can't run the tutorial, get the new Aspiration or the new Trait with an existing Sim.

Thank you so much for explaining how to do this. As a rule, I don't use cheats, but since I've run through the tutorial several times the "right" way, I can justify to myself that if it were available I would have done it. I think I've given myself permission to cheat a tiny little bit, just this time.

     Thanks again - really appreciated!
