sim doesn't have permission to use chess table

I can't replicate this.

Please try the following

• Close the game
• Rename Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4 to Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4_Old
• Start the game. All your content will be gone now as the game created a new folder. All your saves/.. is still in the old folder so not to worry
• Start a new save game
• Check if you still have the error
• Report back with your results for further steps on how to get your stuff back.

I had the same problem today. Added a chess table to the premade karaoke bar at San Myshuno Fashion District, all my household members "don't have permission to use this". The problem doesn't occur when a sim travels to a venue that already has a chess table (I just tested that with the affected family and then again in an older save with other sims - no issue in either case.)

I was having a similar issue, child sim didn’t have permission to use chess table on community lot. 

I tried removing the sim from the club they were in (tried this as someone mentioned clubs affecting this on aother thread), and the options went back to normal. Even after I had her rejoin the club….

I’m on console so no mods or cc.

Started a fresh save, zero mods, zero cc, brand new sim, went to the Willow Creek library, couldn't use the chess table cause didn't have permission. When I took the sim to the Oasis PSrings park, didn't seem to be a problem, so might not be consistent and only affect certain venues? Or maybe it's the specific type of chess table, idk. 

Note: this JUST  started for me today, first time playing since yesterday's patch (Feb 28, 2024).  

@Fanphoria Just to confirm, are you playing without mods/CC?

I had the same problem just now (PC, Mod folder thrown out, version 1.105.345.1020).

In my case, the problem was connected to a Discovery Quest. After I completed it, chessboards were accessible again.

I triggered this now, because I decided to throw away one and a half week of gameplay, just to make sure there are no hidden remnants of the disastrous update of February 27, and so I loaded a save file from February 26.

My current sim immediately got three discovery quests, "Lifelong Aspirations", "You and Your Phone", "Always on the Move". For the first quest, I needed to get an aspiration point, and I decided to go for "level up logic skill from 5 to 6". So I went to the Willow Creek Library chessboard, and only "Polish to Perfection" was available, the other actions were grayed out ("no permission"). Putting a new chessboard there didn't help. Only the sim with the quest was affected. Only public lots were affected (I checked Copperdale High School), no private lots (I checked three). Everything was fine again after I completed all three quests.

@crinrict  Maybe this should be moved to the "Bug Reports" board, as at least in my case it was clearly a bug and not mod related?

It's always important to check WHERE you post when you post in an existing thread.

Same with giving me toos. 

Check if it has solutions, check which forum it's in and then decide from there where your post should go.

This is happening again when trying to complete the “Exercise Your Mind” task for the Blast From The Past event. I’m at the Willow Creek Library and it’s giving me a note that, “Sim doesn’t have permission to use this object” when I click on a chess table. I’m not using any mods or cc
