sim won't care for self sims 4

Hello,

Any time one of my sims are away, the sim(s) that are left at home no longer care for themselves, and that leaves them almost dead when my sim(s) get home from work. I turned on full autonomy, hoping that would help, but they only care for themselves when I'm at the home and could do it anyway. There is no lightning bolt on their avatar like there used to be to even have the option to click "care for self".

Not really sure where to go from here.

Thanks.

  • @parisprincess The same thing is kind of happening to me. Except instead of the whole family not caring for self, just one of the household members won't care for herself. It's driving me insane

@parisprincess A few things you could try if it's just one sim (in which case I am less inclined to wonder if a Mod or CC could be the issue):

    • Reset the sim: https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/the-sims/the-sims-4/how-to-reset-stuck-and-unresponsive-sims-in-the-sims-4/
    • Try selecting one of the other options (like "Tidy Up", then after a short time try re-selecting "Care for Self".
    • If none of that is helping you can choose to 'Bring Here' on the sim and the sim will instantly show up on your current lot. You can have them care for their needs on the lot you are on, then send them home again. This also works if you need to have a child or teen do their homework. You could make sure that all of them have several pieces of fruit/veggies in their personal inventory, since the fruit/veggies do not rot in personal inventory, so if you have to do this you can tell them to eat a piece of fruit if they are hungry and there is no food.
    • You could use satisfaction points to get this sim a slow decay of needs or something that is useful due to this issue... or you can use a cheat to do this. (Even if you don't usually use cheats, I figure all bets are off on that one if something is being caused by a buggy sim, glitch, or current game bug/issue that should not be happening normally! That is only fair.)
    • You can check the sim's traits and see if any of them explain this issue. For example, it the sim was a slob, lazy, etc., I am not sure if these can become barriers for this aspect (I am a very 'Type A' player in sims and never play lazy or slob sims. Lol! If you are wondering about this you can get a 'Re-Trait Potion' or cheat to change this sim's traits. (I have a 'Re-Trait Potion' in the community gallery if you want it under user ID SheriGR.)

Please note that I was reading ( I never realized this before) that the 'Care for Self' option does not appear until the sim's needs have decayed to 50% or less.

I play on Mac with aging off, never use Mods or CC, & have played since Sims 1.
I own all packs, run updates immediately, backup daily, & build ...a lot.

  • Also having this problem. Makes my game pretty much unplayable since I can't join my detective at work. All the kids' motives are in the red when the work day is over and it takes an entire sim day to get them back under control. That's if it's a weekend. During the week, forget it. The only workaround right now is to use a cheat. But, since EA is so awesome, I can't enable a cheat without killing any chance of earning trophies on a family that is in the 4th generation.

Looks like this has been a problem for a while. Is it going to get fixed or are we just going to keep pumping out more expansions without fixing the stuff that people have, you know, paid money for already?

  • Like you said I'd make sure you have on full anatomy anatomy. I've heard a few other people with this bug and I saw a lot of answers from people so I would go check other people's questions for responses that might be helpful, but I think that you have to use some kind of cheat to get rid of the glitch. But I mean if its really an issue, you could always cheat their needs.
