There are a lot of them but it's really well organised for us thankfully because yes there are a lot of bugs unfortunately, they are the bane of our existence! But the more info they get in terms of what packs/mods anyone has then the closer we get to answers, workarounds and fixes.
If you can't find your issue you can use this bug thread and select New Topic then fill in the bug template that pops up with as much info as you can, adding an image helps too.

I've had an issue with paintings myself but mine was also different as I had crashing and/or question marks on a black painting. I just had to scrap them altogether.
I've had a quick search for painting issues and I don't know if either of these match your problem but there are some workarounds there that might help.
On the subject of Sims 4 going free, I've bought it 3 times. Once on disc, once as a download and once as a gift. I was quite annoyed when it went free as well. We did get the lovely Desert Luxe kit as a gift if we'd paid for the base game prior to it's free release but I'm sorry if you missed out on that. It was a limited time offer unfortunately and it's been closed for some time.
