    Hi @EoinieMc,

We ask you to log in to play the game for several reasons, for example, we want to make sure the person playing is not a child (unless allowed by their parents), as the game is rated T (teens).

If I'm honest, it's how it usually works with all the games so I'm surprised you own a Xbox but don't have an account for it. Having a Xbox Live account is what allows you to use all the features of your console.

Do you have a Microsoft account in your Windows computer? Or an Outlook (previously hotmail) account? Then you can use same account to log into your console.

  • Hi @EoinieMc,

The Sims 4 for Xbox does require you to have a Xbox Live account in the console to use the game. This account can be created for free. I haven't tried to play as a guest, but it might be possible ( more info: https://support.xbox.com/en-IE/my-account/security/use-guest-account ). However, an account needs to be signed in to create a guest account, so technically you would still need an Xbox Live account 😉

You don't need an Xbox Live Gold subscription to play The Sims 4, although you do need it to use the Xbox online services, required to use some social features (like sharing videos).

As long as you want to play The Sims 4 with no online features, you don't need an Xbox Live Gold subscription.

Please, let me know if you have any more questions about this 🙂

  • My xbox is logged in through outlook. So I can use outlook or a microsoft account instead of Xbox Live?

  •   Do you need Xbox Live gold to use certain features including the gallery?

This would be really helpful to know!

  • i’m trying to play the sims 4 on my xbox 1 and it says error it says that i need to sign in with the account that purchased the game or app. i have the disc. but i never made an account. so how do i make an account?

  • It was working just fine a couple of days ago. I am logged into my account on my Xbox and I have the disc in, I'm connected to the internet, and it's already set as my home Xbox. I'm still getting the "the person who bought this needs to sign in" error. What do I do now?

  • This is on the older side of time, I'm closing this thread to stop it from being necroed.

If you have any issues with The Sims 4, please make a new topic about your problems and what kind of steps you have tried to solve them.
