Sims can flirt without being told?

This doesn't include free love nap areas. I have naps turned off

I have a rotational game play style. 15 households in my current load. I rotate through each one. Most of these households do know each other, are in clubs together, go out for festivals together etc.

When I return to my households I'm finding extra romantic relationships constantly. I was playing as one family and had a club gathering in which I saw another family flirt and the bitter sentiment flashed for her husband who then got angry (I wasn't in their rotation). I left the family I was playing to go fix the other couples bitterness and anger etc.

Sometimes I'm not aware they have a new love interest until they suddenly get flirty with another sim.

So I'm not sure why it says sims can't flirt unless you initiate it? It was an npc that flirted with the wife and her husband stormed off while I was playing as a completely different family. They were at the gym so there was no romance festival vibe or anything but my sims constantly have side relationships.

I'm not sure but it's there anything that can be done about this. I kinda get tired of asking to just be friends with random sims. It's still playable just annoying that they're starting side piece romances

Sadly, played(inactive) sims can flirt and will sometimes flirt. Most the time is a sim with romantic trait.
If you want to use mods: ModsTheSims have a mod named stop random flirting + no random NPC Romance + No Autonomous Rude/Flirty/Enchanting. I use it in my modded game and never encountered again a new love relationship. (MCC have also settings to stop random flirting but I don’t use MCC)
My vanilla game suffers from same problem, but it helps not to use the romantic trait or use the unflirty trait. Ah and do not skill charisma, sims can use enchanting introduction with her autonomy. (I think the half from my love interest are from this introduction in vanilla)

@wahini2024I understand what you mean, it can become draining trying to fix all my sims relationship to the point they can fall out of love with each other and a few had. How ever I did notice some of my sims was in too many groups without their spouses and you have to make sure they are only flirting with their spouse or person they are dating in the group. Make sure their group is not set to everyone because they will flirt with anyone who is not in the group with them. So meaning if your group title is The Jones Date Night, make sure they only flirting with sims in The Jones Date Night. I hate wondering NPC who walk over and flirt with my sim it's crazy that's one reason I started deleting a lot of NPC and I don't deal with that issue anymore with the sim that flirted with them. They have to realize not every player like to play like that, I love having married couples in my game and I don't like my sims having affairs period

That said, I've found that yes, unplayed Sims that I play rotationally (and, indeed, sometimes Sims while I'm actively playing them!) will autonomously flirt without the free love NAP. If you have MC Command Center you can use it to forbid random flirting, which is what I ended up doing in lieu of ending my legacy save in gen 1 via mass murder because people kept flirting with the husband (I never saw him flirt back), causing the wife to fly into jealous rages, autonomously be mean to him, and develop "furious about cheating" sentiments.

@LonaBoom I have the groups set up to where romantic interactions are discouraged with everyone so they can meet up (in theory) without any romantic interactions. Safe to say they do it anyway in gatherings when I'm around or they're doing even when I'm not around, even there isn't a group gathering and they aren't in active play mode. Like you I took out npc's only to have new ones enter the game... one of which is constantly flirty.

We enjoy "match making" our sims into couples based on sentiments and how they interact etc so when we feel like "okay this is the perfect match" it drives me nuts that they'll flirt and destroy the relationship or have like 3 side relationships suddenly when I'm not actively controlling that specific household

@xochiquetzl_xkvn I don't have mods for the game but my goodness it might be worth it. When I'm not actively playing as a sim household the first thing I check when I return to any of them is the romantic relationship status
Most of them, on their own, develop them. They're usually very low pink meter "romantic interest" or more confusing "hot cold" status and with a strong red meter. I disabled NAPS because it was creating a really hostile environment from rough house so they technically shouldn't be flirting autonomously but indeed they are. They only do it when I'm not playing as them but because I have 15 households most of the "extras" who show up at community lots are my sims not npc or townies etc so I see when they flirt even when I'm not controlling that household
I discourage romantic encounters in club gatherings and yet here we are with a bunch of affairs happening and some pretty bad sentiments across the board

Did you disable NAPs before creating this game.? If not any already enacted NAPs are still in effect and you will need to repeal them in each neighborhood.

@jpkarlsen I repealed the Naps then disabled them after repealing at about 9 households (I'm at 15 now). The newer sim households act the same as those who potentially were infected with free love though the only place that had it was in windenburg and this is a Myshuno only load though I repealed all worlds before disabling. In essence, they all flirt autonomously the same regardless of when I disabled and repealed the naps.

Naps have been a real * in Myshuno. They've never impacted any world so much or any load as much as this one I'm guessing due to its somewhat free world roams inside districts as many mingle together at food vendors or festivals or just to play basketball near Culpepper etc

One of my Sims' husbands autonomously used Enchanting Introduction on...

I ask you.
(I was playing him in a vanilla game! and didn't tell him to do it, he just did.)
I also rotated in to find a romance bar between this man's wife and his father. GACK!!!!!! I actually downloaded MCCC for the first time to get rid of it. (I know, some people would totes LIVE for that kind of drama, but I'm not one of them!)
