Something wrong with Cats and Dogs recently?

I have myself a cat in my Sims home, I gave him the traits Aloof, Prowler and Free Spirit because in the past I've had them becoming more demanding of attention than toddlers and it made gaining skills much harder for my Sims. I had a Norwegian Forest Cat before the last PS update nearly bricked my system and I had to restore it to factory settings and lose all my game progressions... Ugh. Anyhow, that cat had Aloof as his breed trait, and the combo I use (mentioned above) made him very easy to care for. He'd be off prowling the towns more often than not and though being Companion to both my parent Sims, he required little attention to remain a happy and content cat.

Then the disaster and my necessary starting over. Now my cat, with all the same traits, follows my Sims around and interrupts everything they're doing to get petted autonomously. Always. He disappears into town briefly but always returns to following my Sims. He goes from one to the other all day. Last night my whole household was in mourning because he ran away, both parents and twin toddlers were devestated. When he 'ran away', I had sent him prowling and his background was green, indicating a happy cat, no? The whole time he was GONE it was green, and when he returned it was still green. So why the heck did he run away for no reason???

Is this something the devs snuck in or is it a glitch I should report? Why is my Aloof cat presenting the trait of Affectionate??? It's super annoying, there's a reason I avoid the Affectionate trait, my Sims get nothing done with one in the house! The stupid stuff I've learned to halfway tolerate, like when his background is orange and he's either starving with a full food bowl or wanting a 'nice clean litter box' when there are 3 electronic ones all over the house; when that happens, he's only satisfied if I actually buy a manual litter box. -_- Having to call him to his bowl is annoying but having stinky boxes I forget about because I always use the cat-shaped box with the laser eyes is idi0tic. I adore my cats, IRL and in-game (I have 4), just as much as I adore my babies and toddlers. But you get breaks with the kids when they sleep, your parents can get things actually done. The cats sleep far less often or long as real cats do, so they're constantly interrupting my Sims and it get aggravating quickly. >.<

  • Hi @TygerNight !  I actually stopped adding pets to my families a while ago because at some point they became super needy, regardless of traits.  This is really sad because I love having pets!  I can't say that I've experienced everything you described but there's definitely something wrong.  My sims will stop whatever they're doing to pet the cat every few minutes and it's extremely disruptive. That's with the aloof trait and autonomy off (I always play with autonomy off to avoid sims doing stupid things rather than what they need to do). Thanks for sharing!  I hope the devs are paying attention.

Yes, pets are extremely needy in sims 4, and yes pets ignore if you have autonomy off. (I play only with autonomy off) Pet the pet and kiss the pet are the most autonomy action who the game force on you, sometimes 3-4x in a row. In my vanilla game I use wellness treats + catnips, its help a little with the force autonomy. I must say in sims 4 we don’t have a real *off* autonomy and I miss this very hard!

I don’t encounter the other bugs. My cats use litter and food bowls without issues. I play in 30x20 homes (without bb.moveobjects and no clutter builds) + I have one litter box in ever floor.

Pets are running random away, and I hate this feature. A happy pet should never run away, not even after a fight with another pet. I think a reason for this behaviour is that your pet can come back pregnant if you don’t spray it. However, I hate it.

Add: Catnips don’t work at the moment, there are bugged.

  • @JonaO703 Autonomy is the bane of my existence. I can't imagine playing with it on, they do nothing productive on their own. >.o
  • @daikoyu I'm on a PS4 and I prefer very simple room layouts just because I want to see everything I need to; I never have walls up or even halfway up because they affect my line of sight. Clutter is useless junk, I have enough problems getting it to play smoothly without junking up every surface with clutter. So I guess I'm a lot like you; no autonomy, no clutter, no bb.moveobjects. Nice open layouts.

My cat is a boy so he's not going to bring home any little ones, though he might seed some through the islands. XD

And dang, I was giving him catnip to make him run around outside and leave my Sims alone for a minute. Napnip if he was especially annoying. >.> XP
