I am ready to fight mother plant, have vaccinated and recruited 3 sims friends; when I try and lead them down the first hallway with spores, all 3 vaccinated sims start coughing, return to clear area and pass out. I can't get them past first hallway to fight mother plant.
That is annoying. The spores should clear from the hallway after making past that.
The teammates should appear there if you begin the fight. I'd suggest save first and then try it without having them on the lot.
no mods. I went ahead and cheated to complete by get functioning hazmat suits in DEBUG for 3 sims. All were able to walk thru hallways and defeat Mother Plant with hazmat suits on.

Just in case I'll ask: by debug you mean bb.showhiddenobjects or do you have a cheat for that?
