Takes a long time to open things

This has been going on for me for a long time. I can't find anyone in Search who has the same issue. When I click on my sim's fridge, stove and computer it takes a long time for the menu to pop up to make a selection. I just sit there waiting. The Sim's freeze and when the menu finally opens the time shoots forward. I have never used cc or mods.
