Tech Guru Career and Computer Science Degree

So my sim has the distinguished degree in Computer Science. So that degree is supposed to help you get level 7 or 8 in the Tech Guru career. After getting the degree I accepted the Tech Guru career, and I didn't get a promotion. I'm starting off at the very beginning.

I tried to recover a save and go back to my graduation date, I also closed the game and restarted it as well and nothing has changed. I'm not sure what to do next.

When you picked a career was it Tech Guru or Start-up Entrepreneur? If you take Tech Guru you will start at the bottom. Start-up Entrepreneur is the level you can start at with the Computer Degree.
