UPDATE: I finally fixed the issue without having to uninstall/reinstall the game.
On another forum, someone suggested removing the TrayDeletedItems file; which I did and it resolved the issue. Yay!
Hmmm, seems like sims 4 is having a temper tantrum - well, at least your particular 1 is. First thing I'd be doing is clearing your cache. Easily done by just going to the EA app (if you're using that), then select app recovery. If that does nothing, do a complete sims 4 repair. If it's still not fixed ..... way I see it - and it's drastic, I understand - complete uninstall and reinstall. But do the clear cache and repair options first.
Thank you for the suggestions and sadly, I did the app recovery/clear cache and repaired the game again, but still have the same problem.
So, I guess the next step is a complete uninstall/reinstall to fix it, but I just don't have the energy to go through all of that today. lol
