The elders revenge (or why a sim is elder on CAS and young adult in live mode)

Hey.

So I’m trying to help somebody that have this Sim who is visibly an elder in CAS… but still a young adult in live mode.

No mods related to aging. Trait debugging shows nothing unusual.

Anyone ever seen a Schrödinger Sim before? Is this a potential bug ?

  • That was indeed her initial issue, and while trying to help her through the MCCC Discord, we ended up creating this now-infamous 'elder-but-not-really' Sim. She had let her Sim age up naturally throughout her life, which is what surprised us in the first place.

After digging deep from every angle, it honestly turned out to be a bug I had never seen before - and one that didn't seem to be documented anywhere.

I asked her to send me her save file, which allowed me to take screenshots AND (bonus !) fix the bug.
The fix was surprisingly simple in the end : return to CAS a second time, set her age to YA (or whatever age the Sim's blocked into), and then manually age her up using birthday cakes.
The first time she tried this method, it didn't seem to work - which probably added to the confusion... or I might be a Grandma whisperer.

Since my game is in french, the first four screenshots show the Sim with the bug : Elder trait, YA appearance EXCEPT in the relationship panel where they're correctly (or not...?) shown as YA ; and the Sim when I edited it in CAS.
The last screenshot shows the bug resolved, after applying the fix I mentioned.
Hopefully this can help others (or maybe even be addressed in a future patch)

  • There has a been a few other simmers who have posted this also happening with their sims. Could  perhaps the person you are helping change the sim to being a young adult in CAS. Then come back to live mode. Then go back to CAS and make her an elder again, ( or age her up twice using a cake )  and see if that helps.

Initially, her issue was that her Sim was an elder, but in live mode, she had no wrinkles. She only had white hair, that’s all. I told her to make the Sim younger in CAS, save, then age her up again via CAS. And that’s when the real problem started — the game now shows “young adult” in live mode but “elder” in CAS. She also tried the birthday cake, but nothing changed. And honestly, I’m really curious because I have no idea what could be causing this.

So she had no adult traits at all or anything else that seemed off ?

No, everything was normal, except her appearance.

I didn't get the Sim from the gallery ; I directly used her save file. I still have the Dropbox link to the save with the bug, if needed : https://www.dropbox.com/transfer/AAAAALF2WcbyQLzhL3whSbY7nHDvbqUKaxqs4NQFpI64HesJqK_D2Qg

The affected Sim was an active one before, but now she's not in the active household anymore (the player's currently playing with the next generation). The concerned Sim is the mother of one of the Sims in active household. I invited the bugged Sim over and added her to the household to run the tests - her name's Mme. Lorena Wouters.

Since I found a solution to her issue, I didn't keep the save file on my game. My main goal was simply to help her troubleshoot ; I asked the question because I couldn't find any similar cases and thought it might be useful just in case.
