The Sims 4 - getting stuck on building screen while placing lots

Hi, I really need someone’s help. I’ve been playing my The sims 4 save as I usually do, except for this time, after going to the gallery and trying to place down one of the builds, I got stuck on the building screen for at least 15 minutes. So I jumped out of the game and tried to close it on my taskbar. Whenever I do this and click back on the game, a screen shows up and asks if I want to save the game and end it or just end it, but this time it didn’t happen. So I had to restart my whole computer to close the whole game. I deleted the localthumbcache.package from my Sims 4 documents folder and then opened the game again, but this time, I tried to go to a different lot and place the same build there. It worked, but then I tried to place a different build and it got stuck on the building screen again. I have no idea what to do now, has anyone had the same problem as me?

Thanks for answering those questions! Unfortunately, there have been a lot of lag / crash issues reported with the game since the patch for and release of For Rent. It does not seem to be consistent for everyone though. For example, I added a Gallery lot to 4 Olde Mill Lane with no problem. I tested the Ro Kaya Rockside lot as well and had no issue with it. I sort of wonder if the issue may be related to the lot itself. You may want to test placing a few different lots to see if some work but others do not. If you are still having trouble, regardless which lot you place, please try these steps.
- Create a new save for testing. This step is optional but it will prevent any inadvertent changes to your save while Mods are out.
- If we can get your game working properly, you can add the Mods back and see if there are any changes
- It's probably not mod-related but we need to rule that out completely
- Move the Mods folder out (if needed). Delete that localthumbcache file again. Run a game repair.
- If you're not sure how to do this, go to the EA app, click on the TS4 game, click on Manage, then click repair
- Let the repair run for all your packs
- Launch the game. Load the save you want to test. Click the "4 Olde Mill Lane" lot in HonB (I had to evict poor Cecilia Kang first in my game). Click the Build icon in the lower right corner of your window (looks like a hammer and wrench). Once in Build mode, bulldoze the lot and the terrain. Then try placing the Gallery lot.
- You may want to save the Gallery lot to your Library first and then place it
- Some users have reported that the Bulldoze tool causes crashing, so you may need to manually remove all the Build items (what a pain in the butt!)
Please come back and update if these steps worked or not.

@JanaKrchovova Hello! That sounds really frustrating! Please answer these questions to help us better understand what might be happening.
- Are you playing on PC or Mac?
- Do you play with mods / CC? If so, have you tried moving the Mods folder out to test?
- Have you added any packs recently? If so, which one(s)?
- You mentioned trying two different lots. Which lots were they exactly?
- What were the lot types that you tried to place? Were they Residential lots or something else?

I have a few mods and CC, I just tried moving the folder out, but it didn’t help
My recently added packs are For Rent and Home Chef Hustle
It was Henford on Bagley - 4 Old Mill Lane / 30x20 and Tomarang - Ro Kaya Rockside / 40x30 - I didn’t care about the lot size while placing the lot for the second time and Ro Kaya Rockside is the only lot in my game that’s empty
Yes, they were Residential lots

Hi, I finally had time to try it. Thank you so much for your help, the game repair worked, my save runs smoothly as ever! I also have some trouble with the Bulldoze tool, the game crashed when I tried to delete the build for the first time, but other than that, it’s working :D

I’m having the same issue, but on the villereals lot in windenburg. I tried to place two different lots in the manage worlds screen and got the infinite loading glitch. I was able to go in and bulldoze the lot no problem but when I placed the lot I wanted it came through unfurnished, not even any windows. (not shown in the picture is their household funds sitting around the 4 million mark so it’s definitely not an insufflent fund problem) and didn’t give me the usual “_ items have been substituted/removed” notification. Then while still in build mode I tried to place another gallery lot without bulldozing the previous and I got the glitch again. So it seems even if the house miraculously loads, it’s incomplete?
I tried all your troubleshooting tips before this and nothing. also to note the fyres’ house, the other 64x64 in windenburg, I placed from the gallery in build mode and no issues at all, everything came through. this also isn’t the first time i’ve replaced the villereals house, I was able to place another large very detailed castle build (from manage worlds) which took longer than usual to load but loaded nevertheless.
I suck at roofs so almost all my houses I get from the gallery and this glitch is making the game unplayable so i’d really appreciate it if you know something else I could do. I haven’t downloaded any new mods or cc since I was last placing gallery lots (I redid like the entirety of the eco lifestyle world just a few days ago with no issues)

UPDATE: I was able to get it to work thanks to a tip on another thread, First bulldoze the lot, then save and exit the game, then come back in and place the lot. It worked perfectly. didn’t take a picture but it’s the same lot just with all the originally missing furniture and landscaping,
the only thing I did differently when placing it this time is I didn’t turn on bb.moveobjects before placing it. The other thread suggested it could be an issue with things like the move objects cheat or the tool mod (which I don’t have) so maybe having the cheat on is what’s causing the issue? idk.

Hi everyone ... I'm having this issue with the Stargazer Lounge in Sun Myshuno. I'd bulldoze the lot (so far so good) bb.moveobjects has no effect, then I will place my own creation. It begins normally then it is stocking and then after 2 minutes .... tadaaaa the lot is build 😢
No matter what I'm trying, even followed your tips, nothing is working so far.
