@PugLove888, i read your post and was wondering what a habitrail was. i didn't know it was a brand name, so... it's just "Habitrail"? it looks like some sort of hamster gym-labyrinth! i'd never seen one of those before. also, i discovered there's a transport unit/carrier for hamsters sold under that brand name! :o
seeing the pet clothes led me to remember that, years ago, i dressed one of my cats in a little jumper that must have been an old doll's, or something. but she refused to walk until i removed it.
all i do now is sort of "tuck her in" when she sleeps. that is, if she doesn't do it herself first. <3
(she's sitting with me right now... and i'm covering her with *my* jumper! <3)
@unseenlarks, yes I didn't know that "Habitrail" was a brand name either! I assume it is a combination of the words "habitat" and "trail". I guess a generic English term for it might be "hamster maze" or "hamster tubes". I also didn't know they weren't the best choice for gerbils and some types of hamsters! Apparently you need your maze to be scaled to the size of your particular hamster! They have to be much more fun for the hamsters than just living in a rectangular cage or box! The mazes and extra rooms are supposed to mimic a hamster's natural habitat! ❤️ So you can see why I was so pleased that they will be included in this Stuff Pack!
I have to wonder about the story of how the hamsters get to explore in a rocket! 😃 :eahigh_file:
That's funny about your cat not liking being dressed up. I think more dogs prefer being dressed up than cats. But I never had a cat (unless you count the Sims' cats!)
I wish you could get all the packs you are missing soon! ☹️ We will post pictures and tell y'all about it, but it's always better to play first hand! 😇
I think the My First Pet Stuff will be a perfect SP for me! I'm pretty excited about it! ❤️
- unseenlarks8 years agoSeasoned Acehi @PugLove888,
i can see why you like them! it's great that they're supposed to be more like habitats than cages/boxes are. i think *those* are just... prisons. like a tiny fishbowl is, as opposed to a proper aquarium.
i'm sure that hamsters can get unhealthily overweight/bored/lonely if they live in those little cages. ☹️
and i don't know social they are, or how much they enjoy interacting/playing with their owners, but i'd think that would also help keep them happy.
but anyway, the mazes and stuff look like a better/healthier choice for them.
LOL... for some reason, i just thought... Hamsters in a Rocket sounds like a great band name! (well, i know the reason, i always think of funny band names!)
i think that cats dislike being dressed up because they groom themselves very often. so maybe they feel annoyed/confused/angry if there's something in the way.
this cat of mine sometimes pushes the blankets away, grooms herself, then covers herself up again! but that's *her* choice. XD
the other one i own -or am owned by, as it really is, LOL- isn't as "clean". so once she's decided she's comfortable, she stays! (she's a sort of... "cat-dog", BTW. for example, her meow sound more like a little bark.)
and now i'm wondering... could cats and dogs react differently to being dressed up? it could show as a positive or negative bubble over their head? (i honestly don't know how Sims can tell what/how their pets are feeling.)
and i do hope that, one day (some... dayyy...--that reminds me of a song...), i'll be able to buy all the content i want, too. but now, i'm happy to read about your looking forward to this SP! and *i* am looking forward to seeing pictures, of course! 🙂- Player_jp5s5eav8 years agoSeasoned Ace
Well, I saw a video review of this pack. Much like the reviewer, I feel this could have been either a freebie or they should have waited on the release of Cats and Dogs and made a Pets pack. Then of course there were my other two thoughts where they could have waited and made an amazing Cats and Dogs stuff pack full of fun stuff and an expansion pack dedicated to Small Pets. Again, one to the pets offered in this pack, along with ferrets, rabbits, weasels, tortoises, turtles, amphibians, insects, reptiles, birds...
The stuff was cute, but again, I cannot see any of my personal Sims using most of the stuff. A lot of it really just made me think of someone who'd go completely wild and dedicated an entire room or even their whole house to animals, or basically a kid's room or items great for something like an elementary school classroom or a daycare.
About the only things that have a chance of being used by me would be the Aquarium table, which apparently has no fish changing/buying options - a mighty shame, the couches, the animal picture cluster and maybe the tall standing cat/dog lamp. I'd probably make a Sim who would keep a hamster, hedgehog, mouse/rat or that platypus/duck/ram thing just to see the rocket. I did find the mirror and the small animal desk/table lamp cute, but very unlikely to be used.
Overall, the stuff in the pack is very cute. I liked pretty much everything in it, but would it be stuff I'd use in game? Not really. The ones who would get the most out of this pack is likely a small majority. A Simmer who likes/loves to make families or focus on kid Sims would probably benefit from this pack. A Simmer who loves to build might benefit from this pack if they are hard set for certain items. Those desperate for a hamster, hedgehog, mouse/rat or just wants to get an exotic violet creature with ram horns and a duck bill may cave into this. A dog or cat fanatic who just needs everything related to dogs or cats may cave this...
I love cats and adore animals in general, but not enough to spend money on this. I'll save that money for my RL furry family member.- PugLove8888 years agoHero (Retired)
@Player_jp5s5eav, well at least you know what's in the pack, so your decision can be one you are happy with. 😉 But as a Simmer who loves making families, this pack is a very good fit for me! ❤️ (Not to mention I'm a dog fanatic too!) 😃:eahigh_file:🐶 And if there weren't dogs in the world, I would be a cat fanatic! 😇
Also, the "exotic violet creature with ram horns and a duck bill" is one of the Voidcritters that you can trade cards for in the Parenthood GP! 😃🥳 I forget its name right now. 😳

@unseenlarks, *"Hamsters in a Rocket" has started its word tour! Check website to see when "Hamsters in a Rocket" will be in your city. Be sure to purchase "Hamsters in a Rocket's" official concert T-shirts!* ❤️🥳😃 That would make a good band name! My family makes up band names all the time!
I've been watching the little critter run around its habitat and habitrial -- sliding down its slide and running on its exercise wheel! It's really cute! ❤️ It also rolls around on its back in what I assume is its food or water dish! 🤨 Apparently habitrails aren't the best option for some rodents (like gerbils) or types of hamsters, but are good for other types! (Gerbils are too small, and some types of hamsters are too big, especially if they are pregnant!) But we don't have to worry about that in our game. The ones in the game sure do like them! The mazes and little alcoves are supposed to mimic their natural habitat's layout.
In the game with Cats & Dogs and now My First Pet Stuff, the dogs and cats don't act any differently when dressed up. To them it is the same as a collar or nothing at all. I like to dress up my dogs and cats in the game because you don't have to worry about them being unhappy if they are the type of pet who doesn't like it! While the pets will have thought bubbles over their heads, it is usually because they have to go potty, or are hungry or are scared or something like that. Sims can also tell how their pets are feeling if they notice the thumbnail picture of them has an orange background, then you can click on the pet to have your Sim ask them "What's Wrong?" . Then a message will pop up in the upper right hand corner of your screen telling you that your pet is hungry, or need to potty, or is lonely, or wants to go for a walk, etc.
I never thought of the inability to groom themselves as one of the reasons that cats don't like being dressed up as much as dogs do! 🤨 I think you are right! 😇 I always just thought that since most dogs want attention most of the time, while most cats only want attention on their own terms was the reason that dogs are more likely to like being dressed up! I'm sure it is a combination of both!
I love that your cat will uncover herself to groom and then recover herself afterward! ❤️🐱 Sounds adorable! You mentioned that your other cat is more of a cat-dog! Sounds like a good choice for those who can only have one pet but can't decide between a cat or a dog! 😃 Many Pugs are a bit like that. My dearly departed elderly Pug would rub across your legs like a cat does. My young Pug loves to climb up high on the back of the couch, on our heads, on the back of the recliner etc. And all Pugs "purr" like cats! I think how they make the noise is different, but the effect is very similar! They do it when they are content.❤️ We call it the Puggy Purr! Also, a Pug's bark does not sound like a regular dog's bark. It always makes me laugh! So, I understand when you say your cat doesn't meow like most cats and that she sounds almost like she is barking! 😇❤️
The rodents in this pack are extremely smart! 🤨 They get thank you cards from science labs (and I think schools and museums) thanking them for their contributions that led to some breakthrough! There is also a special treat you can feed them to "dumb them down" if you just want a regular pet.
Yesterday my Sims' hamster went on a trip and I missed it! 😢 I got a card back from it saying that it went a long way from home! 🤨 But I was playing a house that also had a 2 dogs and one cat, and it was a lot with the traits that let all the stray cats and dogs visit at anytime, so I was probably busy with them! I need to play a house with just a small pet so I can really watch when it goes on "Vacation"! :eahigh_file: 🥳
- unseenlarks8 years agoSeasoned Acehi @PugLove888,
i'd go see Hamsters in a Rocket in concert! XD (and... it sounds like yours are already having a good time playing in the habitrails.)
i've made up band names out of other Sims-related stuff too. wish i could remember them now...
i've seen more cute outfits for pets by now. so maybe i should show some to my cats and have them think about it... especially the one who doesn't enjoy cold weather too much.
aw... i always say that i wish i could ask my cats "what's wrong?", and have them reply in a way i (they'd mean "the silly human", i'm sure) could understand. i'm always afraid to think about them feeling sick and -unless it was a temperature or a cold- not being able to tell.
it's true... cats like attention when it suits them. XD unless it's my cat-dog... who follows me around all day and sleeps beside me every night. <3
i didn't know that Pugs made a sound like a cat's purr. *they* must be cat-dogs too--best of both worlds. <3 they sound soo adorable. maybe my cat is a Pug in disguise. right now she is a little Pig, though, as she has to eat diet food. 😞
the "thank you" card after rodents contribute to science, etc. is a great idea. i mean, all pets are way smarter than most people think they are... XD
i love the pictures, thank you so much!
