Transferring Sims 4 on Steam?

My daughter just got her first computer and she LOVES Sims 4, unfortunately she won't be able to play the same time as anybody else is using our family computer because the Sims 4 account is tied to my Steam ID. I have set up her own Steam ID, and no one else plays Sims 4. Is there anyway to transfer the game and packs over to her account so she can play on her computer while someone else is playing games on the family computer? She has purchased a lot of expansion packs and it would be 100s of dollars if we had to buy everything over. Please help, she loves this game and wants to play as much as possible.

  • @Tanek4242  There is usually no way to transfer a game or packs from one account to another, at least not with Origin.  EA customer support sometimes makes an exception when an adult purchases content for a child account because it can't be transferred otherwise, but it sounds like that's not what you did here.

To clarify, do you own Sims 4 in Origin, in Steam, or both?  If you own the game in Origin, you don't need to play through Steam, in which case it's just a question of only having one computer currently signed into and online in Origin; Steam doesn't come into the picture unless you own content through Steam as well.  I know that Steam has some kind of family sharing too, but I have no idea how or whether it works with EA games.

Thank you for the reply. I have only purchased through Steam, but the game was purchased for my daughter. I have never even played Sims 4 and have no desire to play. When we only have 1 computer it did not matter that it was on my Steam account because only one person could play at a time. Now that she has her own computer I am unable to play a game (say Axis and Allies) while she plays Sims 4 upstairs on her computer. Is there any way to remedy this? We've spent like 300-400 on packs, so really don't want to repurchase if it can be avoided.

Unfortunately the family sharing: 1. Doesn't work with Sims 4 and 2. Only allows the other user to access your library when you are not using it.

@Tanek4242  In this case, you'd need to contact Steam, not Origin, to ask about transferring the content, since it's actually your Steam library that owns the game.  I'm not sure what Steam's policy is on that front.  However, if you did get the game transferred to your daughter's account, you could make an Origin account for her to link it to so her setup could be completely separate from yours.  Please be aware that Steam accounts can't be linked to underage Origin accounts.

If you can't transfer the content from your Steam account to your daughter's, then there's unfortunately nothing EA can or would do to help.  Aside from the possibility of playing with the game launchers in offline mode, I'm not sure there's anything else you can do

  • Hello there @Tanek4242 ,

I would definitely look into Steam Family Sharing. With this feature, you could add your daughter to your Steam Family making her have access to your Steam Library. Then she could download The Sims 4 and all the packs. Definitely look at the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) on that page which is down at the bottom. It should answer any additional questions you may have.

The only downside is she would have to start all over because progress from one account does not transfer to another.

    Happy Gaming and Stay Safe!

    Hi @Tanek4242,

A quick heads-up: I moved this thread to General Discussions and removed the duplicate post on this issue that you shared. 🙂

Since @The_other_Rare mentioned Steam Family Sharing, just a note: save files should be tied to the individual account (or the device, if saves aren't uploaded to Steam Cloud) so ideally, progress shouldn't be lost. 🤞

But, as @puzzlezaddict mentioned, this seems to be a case for Steam support since The Sims 4 was purchased through Steam.
