Unplayed households disappear from the world / lots become empty

Hi, I am experiencing a recurring bug in The Sims 4. Some of my unplayed households disappear from the world completely. Sims living in apartments or houses just vanish. Their lots become empty even though they were furnished before. This happens whenever I play with other households. I do not delete them myself. The issue occurs even with Mods or custom content removed. I have tried clearing the cache and repairing the game, but the problem keeps coming back. I have backups, but constantly restoring them is very frustrating. Please investigate this issue. It affects other players and makes managing households very tedious.

  • Hi MR1985MR

You can only have a certain amount of Sims in your game. After that the game starts culling Sims.

If you don't want certain Sims culled, make sure you move them to my Households.

Do you have any neighborhood stories for them ? Are the houses actually without furniture or can you just only buy them without it ?

  • Hi Mark, thanks for the info!

I have Neighborhood Stories completely turned off, so nothing should be happening automatically in the background.

The households that disappear always have fully furnished homes before they vanish — but after they’re gone, the house or apartment becomes completely empty.

I also have the maximum number of Sims set to 200, but it shouldn’t be over that limit.

This issue happens consistently, across multiple households, and I don’t use any mods. It’s been happening for a long time, so it seems like a persistent bug rather than normal culling.

Do you have a lot of NPCs/unplayed. Ghosts also count ? The max number Sims only includes households Sims.

I you enter lots of those families in build mode, is there still no furniture ?

    (not sure who Mark is)

  • Yes, these are unplayed households — as mentioned earlier in our discussion.
I’ve been testing the issue specifically with unplayed families from the start. :-)

    Hi MR1985MR

I think you might have misunderstood my question.

How many unplayed Sims do you have ? Did you count them that you know it's not over 200 or does it say you have 40/200 (for example). That number does not include Sims that are not in my household so you'll need to use a mod to check your population or manually count them. There's also hidden households (ghosts and such) that will also count towards the culling limit.

There's a limit on how many you can have, independent from NHS. If you go over that limit, the game will cull your Sims.

Once your game has hit the culling limit, it will remove them each time you go over so it can happen any time.
