villianous valentine not working

I'm stuck on the Villainous Valentine aspiration on the "Break Up Couples" task. My sim will have high stats with a person, and I'll go through "Other Sims" and "Break Up" to break up the couple, but every time the person responds negatively, dropping our relationship, and saying some variation of no. So, then I spend the next day building the relationship stats back up, only for the answer to be a resounding no again.

Not to mention, this is a long standing save and I couldn't find more than one couple, so I had to add some in CAS. Is this a bug from the new packs, or what can I do to finish this aspiration?

    I've had no problem with the actual breakup happening.  I've never had a rejection.  But how I do it may be the difference.  You might be trying to do it a different way.

    I basically have my sim max the romance bar with whichever one of the couple that has the right gender preference, usually making them a bf/gf/romantic partner and then use the convince to leave spouse option to break them up.  And then I break up with them.  Of course, breaking up gives you a max negative romance bar but doesn't seem to affect friendship as far as I can tell.
