what's up with this new main menu?

Hello everyone. I am a little confused with the new main menu. So do I have always have to play the last played household (resume) first before I can choose another household? Seems like more work to play a previous household. Before this new main menu, the game would open up into the neighborhood view and I can choose any household I wanted. I know the menu has "load" and "new" game but neither of those options have an option to get into a neighborhood. If nothing else, there should at least be a button by the load and new that you can get into a neighborhood.

If I am overlooking something by wanting to play a different household other than the last played one please let me know, as it's a bit frustrating to try to play other families.
