I know little on the complexities of coding and all that goes into making games, but if there is anything I do know is that there is a consistent theme with the bugs since the last update patch: relationship routing is chaotic. While I do believe the bullying in the Social Bunny app is intentional, the mean messages from good relations are likely bugs that fall within the same line as the other relationship bug regarding family members showing romantic interests in each other. Seeing some LPs for the High School Years pack display plenty of similar anomalies in Sim-to-Sim interactions and pop-ups. I've seen relationship symbols appear above the heads of sleeping Sims; relationship gain or losses showing one thing via symbols but the opposite on the meter bar; pop-ups from Sims who have asked to become best friends being asked a second time; Sims spawning into your played Sim's home to admit feelings of attraction and so on...
I've noted this theory before in other places, but I think the bug rests greatly in the step to give Simmers the ability to diversify their Sims sexual identity and orientation. With the original foundation it was simpler for the game to route these things because there was only two options for a Sim's physical sex and sexual orientation was with any Sim who is an adult. Now, that very simple system is trying to route specifications to a Sim that could have a male upper body, a female lower body who uses gender neutral pronouns and is romantically attracted to males, but is experimenting and only has the interest to whoo-hoo with females. Using that for perspective, I am guessing the system is having a lot of trouble keeping up with what is what and who is who. Therefore, your game file may have collected data that your Sim has a great relationship with their brother and a horrible relationship with their brother's best friend, but for some reason that best friend is sending their brother hate mail while asking your Sim to be their best friend and to make matters more confusing your Sim's best friend is majorly crushing on your Sim's aunt, with whom they have never even interacted with before.
So... yeah... with that sort of stuff happening in Simmer's games recently... I don't think the Social Bunny app was supposed to enter the realms of cyberbullying, but it was supposed to follow a standard route where if your Sim has a bad relationship with another Sim, it would likely result in mean messages. This would be semi-controllable by the Simmer playing, though, because the Simmer chooses who can be added to their SB account and has the power to make relationships good, neutral to bad if they work at it.
