Why Is Every Comedy Routine I make of Poor Quality?

I have a sim (Male, Level 8 Comedy, Level 2 Writing) and all the comedy routine he writes comes out with poor quality!

I also have an issue where I can only refine one comedy routine, strangely enough.

Help?

  • Hi @EllieDidAThing

did you perform the routines at least once ? You can only refine them after performing them.

As for the poor quality, is that only with that Sim or do you see it with others too ? Is your Sim in a good mood when you write them ?
  • He is in a good mood when he writes them, usually in the 'happy' mood though even when he writes in a playful mood, they come out with poor quality. The quality only improves from poor after refining several times.

Hi @EllieDidAThing - You'll have the best chance of writing better quality comedy routines by being "Very Playful".  When I leveled my comedian, I set up a room with a bunch of playful paintings and those trophy statues. Have your sim watch a comedy on tv and enable the emotional auras in the room, make some gummy bear pancakes and eat them while watching a comedy - there are tons of ways to get playful. Just be very careful, if they get TOO playful they can become hysterical and die from laughter. 😮

Checking with some other helpers, the routines usually start out poor, and you have to refine them to get better results. Here's an excellent guide on leveling a comedian: http://www.carls-sims-4-guide.com/skills/comedy/

Also be aware that there is a limit on how many of each routine can be written. I think it's 8 or 10 of each; once you've written all the short routines, for instance, the only thing you can do is refine.

  • Most, if not all Comedy Routines when first written will start out Poor, and you are supposed to Refine them as you gain more Comedy Skill to raise their overall quality. Being Playful when writing Comedy Routines will speed up the writing process, but it doesn't seem to actually have a bearing on the routine's quality.

As far as Refining Comedy Routines, what do you mean you can only Refine one comedy routine?

If you mean you can only refine one at a time, that kind of makes sense; you only work on one project at a time after all.

If you mean that after you've refined one, that you can't refine others, it could mean that you need to actually perform the routine first before you can actually refine it.

(Refining the Routine doesn't become available until you've performed it at least once on the microphone; I usually make it a practice to have a microphone on my lot so I can just go down the line with my comedy routines, then refine them all as needed.)

Refined Comedy Routines are more likely to bestow a Playful Moodlet upon you and your audience when performing the routine, even more so if you perform the routine by practicing first.

    Hopefully that gives some clarity.
