Workaround/Tips for Dealing with Harvestables Bug

This has been a long-standing bug that's never been fixed, and I thought I would share how I deal with it.

Do note, this requires testing cheats to be active.

First off, check your plants daily. If a plant is In-Season or Sheltered but has reverted to a dirt pile, it's been affected by the bug.

If you click on a full-grown plant and only four options appear, it's been affected by the bug. Options like "Take Microscope Sample" that should be present aren't.

The best fix I've found for this is to Shift-Click the plant, go to "Set Gardening State" then "Growth Stage". Setting the Growth Stage to "Blossoming" will put it back in the state

to let the plant produce crop the next morning as usual. All interactions will have returned. This is not a permanent fix. Traveling or closing the game may bug them again.

It's vital to check every plant daily.

There is a cheat-free solution, but it's very unreliable.

You can go into Buy/Build, pick up the plant, and put it in Household Inventory, then place it back down again.

If you're lucky, this may restore it. Not guaranteed to work. This is much more hit-or-miss.

  • @iamsweetmystery Thank you for sharing those tips. Any workarounds and explanations are useful, as I love gardening in the game, and have spent a crazy number of hours on it. It makes me sad that there are still issues the with plants. 🌱

@SheriGR - Always happy to help any way I can. Been a fan of the series since at least Bustin' Out. I know how frustrating some of this stuff can be and, where I can, I try to do my small part to unburden others in this delightful community.

  • @iamsweetmystery Keep in mind the collect microscope samples comes from the get to work science career so is not available for sims not in that career. I don't know if it was unlocked in the gardening career.

@Sid1701d9 - Nope. Anyone teen and older can buy and use the microscope regardless of employment. The microscope is also a Base Game object, so interactions involving it are likewise Base Game. I checked with an an unemployed Sim who has never been in the Scientist career, and she still had the option. It's also not the only option that disappears. Others like Take Cutting and Research disappear too. I was using Collect Microscope Sample as an example. Please fact check beforehand in the future. We don't want people getting incorrect information.

  • Thanks. I've stopped gardening all together in my game and have shelfs with harvestable produce stored in my Gallery that I just let my sims buy to stock their fridges.

@RandomBuzziness - Mine was on GameCube. Still have it. And the connectable GBA tie-in. I loved it so much I later got Sims 1 also on Cube. Then Sims 2, Sims 2 Pets and The Urbz (which led to me buying 3 Black Eyed Peas albums) also on GameCube, Sims 2 Castaway on PS2, Sims 4 on PS4 and Sims 2, 3 and 4 on PC. Been an avid fan of the franchise for half of forever.
