Beware of events on large lots. Guests can gather outside the lot at a different spawn point, and never arrive. At Myshuno Meadows, I think they spawn down at the bottom of the hill, then get distracted and wander off. There's a mansion in Del Sol Valley where Sims meet at the bottom of the hill as well. Even if they jog, they won't get to a party until it's over.
