A first?

I decided to go ahead and buy High School Years at full price, as I was getting bored with what packs I had, and I liked packs that focused on "everyday life".

One of my big complaints has always been that NPC careers aren't available to the played household and that once an NPC moves in with a played household, they are then unemployed.

Seems that may be changing.

Mei and Molly Prescott are currently a part of my current household, as Mei is currently the girlfriend of my played Sim. Before moving in, Mei had asked my Sim if she should change careers, and I noticed that when Mei and Molly were moved into my household, Mei was listed as a "Stay at Home Mom".

Molly went to school this morning, and I decided to delete the townie who had taken over from Mei as principal. A few moments later, Mei showed up as principal. Surprisingly, she was the Mei in my household, not a duplicate. She walked around, acting exactly as she did as an NPC. The action queue lists her actions as "Careers". However, she isn't acknowledged as having the career in her career panel, and she certainly isn't getting paid for it.

I have MCCC. Is this supposed to happen? First time I've ever seen anything like this happen, and the Sims Wiki says it's not supposed to happen.

If Mei is in the current household or has died, she won't appear in the high school and a randomly generated sim will be the principal instead.

I was impressed. All I can say is--why doesn't this happen more often? The game should have support for multiple Sims in one household with the same career, as well as retaining NPC careers and allowing played Sims to have that role (even if it's not an active career).

Secondly, did I break something or is something broken allowing this?

I frankly don’t know how that works, anymore. MCCC moved my HoB NPCs out of town and they lost their jobs as a result. I had to move them back, then cheat their NPC status back in. They’re on a lot, but still have their jobs, now. But, Neighborhood Stories moved the sages out to a lot and they’re still sages, while Celene got moved and lost her job. If someone figures it out, let me know. I really want some of these special NPCs left alone.

I forgot about the sages. Neighborhood Stories moved all three in my main save and all have married and started families and remained sages, except for Morgyn who moved to San Myshuno and is still single. In the other save they've all moved, but not married or started families, and all remained sages. So that puts an end to my theory about starting off on a lot. The only other explanation is the Prescotts moving and Mei remaining as principal was a fluke. They've only moved in one of the two active saves I have going.

I went and looked again, and in both of the saves that I have played since Werewolves came out, Celene has moved to the same apartment in Evergreen Harbor. NS moved her into Stonestreet #4 both times and had her quit the bartending gig, she's unemployed in both. She must really hate working at Grimtooth, or she really hated Moonwood Mill. That is officially weird.

  • @cyncie @DaniRose2143 Huh. When Neighborhood Stories moves my sages, they stop being sages. I don't have MCCC. interesting

EDIT Or I could just be thinking of that one time that L. was moved to Tartosa and stopped being a sage...
Is early retirement to Tartosa a mischief magic spell?

I know if you add a sage to your household they stop being sages. But I thought that extended to them moving into a lot and/or starting a family. I’ve had them lose their sage status when take them into CAS to edit them and other times it doesn’t. I think maybe the difference is if they are a played or unplayed household. Sometimes after I give them a makeover in CAS when I exit it puts them as my active household, other times it sends me back to the household I was playing when I clicked on them.

  • That could be it @DaniRose2143 . I can say that I didn't edit or play L. in that game, it was just Neighborhood Stories that moved her. But I think you've seen this in action way more than I have.
  • @mightysprite When I first got RoM I did a few makeovers with L and Morgyn. Every time I did they stopped being sages. It doesn’t happen as often now.

It’s sort of off topic but taking the sages into CAS to give them makeovers reminded me of a trick I discovered with ‘Modify In CAS’. This may be old news for everybody else, but I found that ‘MiC’ is a good way to switch households during a gathering and not have the group split up. When I have the ladies of Tartosa get together if I find I need to take control of one of them outside of my current household, I right click and choose MiC. When it loads that sim click the check mark and I’m with them and nobody has moved or left. I’m right back where I was but in control of the new sim. I think it only works on residential lots which would explain the sages sometimes being my played household when I exit CAS. If they’re on a community lot or in no sims land it doesn’t put me in control when I exit.

@mightysprite @DaniRose2143 I edited all three sages in this game when I had to move my Myst game to a new save due to the corruption of my game file during the Werewolves download. I have Morgyn out as playable, and in my previous game, L. and Simeon had died. I took all three into CAS from The Realm using MCCC. I edited L. and Simeon and changed their names, and completely rerolled Morgyn’s appearance and changed his personality traits. When I exited CAS, they were still in The Realm and still sages. Later, the game moved them all on lots, but when I checked, they were still sages and still appeared in The Realm. I used the household manager to merge them into one lot and I have them in the My Households tab now, with Neighborhood Stories turned off. They were never played and are still sages in The Realm.

I just wish it was easier to figure out which ones get demoted.
