A Gnome’s Guide to Garden Harmony… and Mischief

Editor’s Note: The following gardening guidance arrived to The Sims news team with a pile of seed packets. We loved it. Happy harvesting.

By Happy Gnome Garden Pal

Friend of Flowers, Distributor of Seed Packets.

Sul Sul, Sim friends!

The petals have spoken. The produce has filed complaints. There are mournful reports of wilting ambition, dry soil and questionable habits.

As your garden guardian, I am here to correct this behavior and protect your pots and plots with a timely reminder on proper care.

Follow these rules and your garden may flourish.

Pack Notes: Some gardening magic requires Expansion or Game Packs.

Master the Gardening Basics

A healthy garden begins with a bit of watering and wisdom. Make sure to give leafy friends a drink when they're thirsty, pull weeds as they appear, and keep an eye on your Sims’ plant health.

As your Gardening Skill grows, you can better assess plant quality, manage larger plots with less chaos, and unlock techniques that separate the casual planters from true masters of the soil.

Be attentive, I may even reward you with a bountiful gift of marvelous seed packets…

Fertilize for Better Harvests

Looking for exceptional fruits, flowers, and vegetables? Fertilizing your plants can improve their quality and help your garden reach its full potential. After all, better plants mean better harvests with more valuable produce!

With The Sims 4 Cottage Living Expansion Pack, Oversized Crops can be fed with their very own fertilizer, rewarding lucky green-thumbed Sims with produce that may very well require its own garden patch!

Make Room for Growth

Not every garden gets a sprawling yard. Some gardens get a balcony, a corner, etc. I respect an efficient, compact garden when I see one.

The Sims 4 Eco Lifestyle Expansion Pack solves this problem with Vertical Gardens, allowing you to cultivate greenery upward, not outward.

Limitation is but another gardening challenge waiting to be overcome!

Discover Rare Plants Through Grafting

A Sim’s most coveted plants can only be created through grafting. Skilled gardeners can take cuttings from one plant and combine them with another to unlock rare harvestables such as Dragonfruit, Orchids, Cowplant Berries, and even the legendary Death Flower.

The Death Flower can spare a dear Sim’s soul.

If you care for your Sims the way I’ve seen you care for your gardens, you’re going to need them!

Respect the Seasons

You might think gardening is predictable, until you introduce…weather!

With The Sims 4 Seasons Expansion Pack, your carefully laid plan(ts) must now contend with rain, snow, heat waves, and the sky’s frequent mood swings. Plants will thrive, struggle, or simply refuse to cooperate depending on timing alone.

A wise gardener learns patience…and why tomatoes may freeze in the spring!

Welcome Us With Open Arms

The Seasons Expansion Pack also brings the joy of Harvestfest….a delightful holiday in which we gnomes appear on your lot to assess the hospitality situation.

Appease us by offering a gift, but do it wisely! Coffee, pie, salad, fruitcake, toys, desserts, produce, baked goods, and even Future Cubes may or may not satisfy us, depending on rules only us gnomes know.

Don’t even think about asking Plant Sims, we’ve sworn them to secrecy.

A satisfactory offering brings seed packets, evolved plants and a peaceful season of growth.

Fun fact: If you befriend Agatha Crumplebottom from Cottage Living and have gnomes lying around your home, she brings them to life whenever she visits you. I always have gnomes teleporting around the house after parties then planting random garden sprouts everywhere. Took me awhile to hunt this mischievous culprit down. 😁

  • I love making Greenhouses for my Sims yard.  Unfortunately, I tend to mostly forget to add a funny gnome.
