A Poll on Snow Depth

This is just to see if there are any correlations between the want of snow depth in Seasons and the geography of the player.

I hope this is the right category to post this!

  • I think the snow depth is fine, I watched the live steam and it FELT like winter. Seriously between the trolley and the visibility I could practically see my street at any time Dec-March. I would have loved the deep snow but at the same time with all the other features it really doesn't matter that much to me, especially when sims are doing the slipping on the ice and having to shovel the snow. It reminds me of my favorite time of year(glares at 80f summer weather).
  • The snow drifts were more than enough to give me the impression there's more snow than the flat layer on the ground; good enough for me though I didn't quite care about snow depth to begin with.
  • I don't want to vote because I live in an area where there isn't a lot of snow (Midlands, UK), and I am happy with having a small bit of snow only- but I would have liked if the sim's shoes sinked just a tiny tiny bit. I'm not a fan of how they just glide over a white carpet.
But the snow itself looks so pretty that the flatness of itself if definitely livable. That being said if mods come out which add some dept I'll be on that in an instant.
  • I live in somewhere it rarely snows, so I’m okay with lack of snow depth.

However, I HAVE lived up north as a child, so I can understand how weird or offputting the lack of deep snow in some of the Sims screens looks at times, though.

Especially if characters can build snowmen and shovel snow when it sometimes looks like there is barely any snow depth for doing those kinds of activities. Like, what’s the purpose of shoveling snow if it never goes above your feet level to become a problem? (Maybe we should be able to salt icy areas instead?)

Anyway, I can understand the simmers who may not like the shallow snow depth, and I agree with them that it can look a little offputting at times.

In the end, though, the lack of snow depth is not enough to fully put me off buying the pack. I usually play the summers, springs, and falls of my Sims games, anyway, so that could be another reason it doesn’t bother me too, too much...
  • I live in the UK where a millimetre of snow is enough to cause chaos - airports ground planes, trains stop running, no one can seem to drive any more and the only school that would be open during the snow is the one I used to attend, which still makes me bitter 10 years later

The snow in TS4 looks similar to where I live. However, in my game I prefer it to have some substance, it isn't harming anyone in a game and this pack is mostly about the aesthetics. It looks meh to me, unfortunately. The Sims 3 snow was perfect.

During the live stream, I noticed that there is random snow drifts in the middle of nowhere. I am pretty sure drifts only occur when the wind pushes it up against a solid object.

Hey, you want realism for your Sims, right?

Not really because to be honest I hate snow. So why would I wish that on my sims. It’s like laundry I hate that to why would I put that in my game knowing I can’t stand to do laundry IRL. I have every pack the sims franchise has ever put out and I dispise the laundry pack we got. Only because I don’t see how laundry fits in the sims I like the other things in that pack just not laundry. So my point is not everyone wants the sims game to be like real life they use the game to escape real life and I am one of those people.
