Hi GalacticGal,
I'm a lurker in WHIYGT thread. I'm also a lurker in Creative Corner. You might've seen me 'like' a few of your posts there or in Creative Corner.
I'm always on the look out for stories to sink my teeth into. I've come across many on WHIYGT that I'd love to follow along more closely. Yours was one I was particularly excited to find because you have a dedicated thread for yours.
The one thing I find difficult though, is navigation. I don't feel confident commenting because the thread is currently at chapter 45, and from where I began, I'm missing 40-ish chapters worth of context. So I tend to lurk and leave silent likes instead.
This is also how I sometimes lose track of stories on WHIYGT. If I had a busy period and come back after a while, it's difficult to work out where or how to get back into a story.
Would you consider adding some kind of navigational section to the main thread? I think it could make it much easier for new readers to jump in and for existing readers to find their place again after a break. I could reorder the posts from oldest to newest, but if I stopped reading for awhile, I'd have to do that again and then search through the thread to find the chapter I left off at. It can mean quite a few clicks just to get back to where I was.
If your chapters naturally break into arcs, even something as simple as an arc/chapter index could help a lot. Or summaries can help, such as "New here? Read this then start from Chapter 30(link here)!" might give newer readers an easier entry point without expecting them to work through the entire backlog first.
I'm only suggesting it because I'm actually one of those people who wants to read your story, but I easily lose my place (even irl, I'm hopeless with directions). I suspect there may be other lurkers in the same boat. I hope this helps.
Just thought you would like to know I was able to grab the link from chapter two, but all you need do, is hit the show more link on the chapter above. Thanks again for the clue. I also put a message to that end over in WHIYGT? thread.
