A way to force orange pumpkins
Is there a way (cheat, mod, fertilizer) to ensure a harvest of orange pumpkins? Mine only ever turn out green or white. The problem is that the one village errand from Agnes requires the player to ...

The next morning the backyard looked like a lot of work.

And indeed the couple took until 16:00 to finish tending to the pumpkins (and two cows, the bees and the mushroom/berry garden).

Trifles like changing into the correct outfits became meaningless, the sims ate in their outerwear and brushed the cows in their sleepwear. On the upside, after teaching him a lesson in politeness, the Family Oriented Daniel had forgiven his husband and was now supportive of his cause. Not only did he help with the gardening (Daniel is the better gardener between these two anyway, since he also Loves Nature), he also made sure to serve Gavin’s favorite dishes.

Daniel: “Say, didn’t you befriend wild rabbits soon after we moved to Henford? Can’t they, I dunno, eat the weeds or something?”
I had indeed unlocked the rabbit stump, but in the beginning only a single rabbit spawned, that didn’t do much work. Only after the pumpkins were all fully grown did three more rabbit emerge – apparently the solo one had decided that this was a good place to found a family.

But even though the original rabbit wasn’t a good eater, its presence was invaluable to keep Peggy entertained. Peggy, Argus and the bunny were pretty much on their own those days…

…what is of course no way to handle a toddler, so the couple asked Gavin’s parents to take in the girl for a week or so. The elder (but not yet elders in game terms) Reeds were living next door, so Peggy wouldn’t be out of the world. (And at the far end of the neighborhood lives Gavin’s brother, that would have been an option, too.)

Well, in a way it really was.

After Peggy and Argus had moved out, Gavin prepared for ramping up his pumpkin enterprise to an industrial scale. If this batch wouldn’t yield an orange one, Gavin would cover the whole lot in pumpkin patches and Daniel, the village school teacher, would recruit six of his students to help with the gardening during summer break. The Reeds certainly had the space and the provisions to provide for six farmhands, but just in case time would be an issue, they also prepared Potions of Plentiful needs to feed to their workers. (Maybe with this attitude they should recruit convicts, not teens?)
On a sidenote, it is totally a rumor only that Gavin shouted “Muwahahahaha!” while making these plans.

The first pumpkins matured… white and green ones for starters, but very soon one patch ripened to orange, too! I was happy, but I had also taken a fancy to the industrial scale farm, so I’ll certainly play that in another household, most likely the former Watson farm that is currently uninhabited.
And now imagine my surprise when my “rare” orange pumpkins were joined by more and more siblings! In fact, orange was the most common color in this harvest:

Final results: 56 Orange, 52 Green and 40 White, so I assume each color is one-third likely to appear.
