Actor Career issues
I've played two sims in the actor career now, and had some issues that bothered me with the whole process. Sim 1 got to level 10, which either isn't the top of the career despite being named Master Actor, or there isn't an achievement for getting to the top of the career, which seemed weird. Especially since he quit promoting. Sim 2 got to level 8 before I retired her as she was an elder, but was a huge mistake.
I have a few huge issues with acting. First, if you accidentally cancel the audition, it just fails it. There is no "are you sure" like if you cancel going to work. You're just screwed. Also, if you have two sims in a household with auditions on the same day, only one will attend. The other will automatically fail, which didn't make any sense to me. I was forced to put them on alternating schedules.
Second, if you choose NOT to follow an actor to work, the odds are high they will get 0 simoleons for their time. And when they do get paid, it's nowhere near their median pay. My level 10 actor, who I should be able to be trust going to work alone, with a median pay of 9,800, came home from work with 1,200. That doesn't seem anywhere near right.
Third, once they retire, they get ZERO everyday. Really? Master actor with a life's service and pension of ZERO?
I did have fun doing the gigs, they were varied and interesting. I felt like my actor failed his stuff too much given his acting and skill for the gigs, on the whole. And even with gold performances he was never once even nominated for an award, which made doing the acting aspiration worthless.
I had a mild irritation that the co-stars for the romantic scenes could be either gender pretty randomly. My male actor had a female co-star about 70% of the time....and so did my female actor. I got the feeling it was intended for a male actor, which felt weird. I think it would be perfect if we could assign one of the co-stars to the romantic role, it would be perfect. Also their hair styles. The male styles were always either brown or black short styled or beach bum straight. The female hairstyles were almost always either red or blonde, and the styles were usually long over the shoulder or ponytails.
Right now, the way it is, I don't have a desire to replay the acting career. I feel incredibly punished by the entire experience. I loved the other get to work jobs, and even if the take home pay in those wasn't as much going alone as going with, it was never zero. And their pensions were reflective of their time in career.
My final gripe was the town of Del Sol. It's far far far too small. 6 residential lots just isn't enough. Why can't we have a decent sized world like we got in Get Together? Windenburg was great. Everything since then has been meh at best.
For a positive, I really like the way celebrities were implemented this time around. I haven't been looking forward to a celebrity pack because I loathed them in Sims 3 so much/ I had mods turn them off back then because if you didn't they would take over the city. Here though, if you don't actively continue to pursue celebrity status, you lose it. And you can opt out altogether. And the perks are hilarious, I laughed so hard every time a stan stalked my house (even though I know how terrifying that would be irl), and once a paparazzi got into my house and wouldn't leave for hours. He just laughed when my sims told him to leave.
Anyway, thanks for the good stuff, and I really hope you iron out the actor career so its more fun to play.
