Definitely do genetics. You can always edit the traits or looks if you do not like something, yet still being the biological child of your Sims. Not to be rude to the kids in the orphanage, but a good chunk of them are not exactly the best good looking, and you never know if the qualities they have are much worse than what you'll get. I definitely recommend getting the MCC Mod when it comes to playing with LGBT couples. One of the features of this amazingly packed mod is the ability to enable Woohoo for Baby for same sex couples, whether male or females, and not just for heterosexual couples.
