When they mentioned rotational gameplay, I never assumed that my families would actually 'freeze' when I'm not playing them. I thought it was pretty clear that they would continue 'living' so to speak, they just wouldn't age up, whereas the unplayed Sims would.
It never occurred to me that others would take rotational gameplay to mean something slightly different. Personally, I'm glad that my families don't freeze, that's one aspect I hated about TS2. To play with one family in the morning, then switch to another to have it be nighttime, nah, TS4 does it better, imo.
