My Sims live in Henford-on-Bagley, and after the last update - suddenly aliens are everywhere. I just find it strange because I didn't see any before the update - I just started this particular game -...

No it's not normal. Get the names of all the Aliens, then go into manage households and delete them all. If they keep spawning, then it is probably a bug that you should take notes on and report.
