Hmm... That is something I've been having too.
All pre-patch elders seem to get this fear, while all post-patch elders added into the game don't.
My theory here is that becoming an elder is one of the triggers for the fear of death. However, somehow the game gets confused and assigns the fear to all the elders that already exist.
