- Chicklet453685 years agoSeasoned AceWhile I think some things are much better in TS4 than previous games, there's also things I think are worse.
Like for example, I want to see the floor and grid on the upper floor, I don't want it to automatically put down a floor and I can't see what's beneath it, so I can draw out my room or stair area. I don't like that I can't just place or add one single upper floor tile (unless there's a trick I don't know about, when I try to delete one tile, the entire floor deletes), that I have to create a room to place a floor tile in that area, then delete the walls
I think roof is easier in TS4, I didn't use to, until recently when I went back to TS3 and was modifying a roof.
I like that in TS4 we have lots of different size walls, which makes it really easy to make flat roofs.
I don't like in TS4 how fences area done, I don't like that it shows transparent wall when placing them, that messes with me and makes me feel like it's not placing the right fence.
But, I do like that's it's easy to change the fence just by picking a new one and placing your mouse over the existing one, In TS3 you have to delete the existing fence and then re-draw the new fence.
I like that in TS4 we can freely place doors and windows now, I missed that a lot in TS3 because windows are sometimes not on the wall at the height I want, or they are centered on 2-tiles even tho it's a 1-tile window and it won't fit where I want it to go.
In TS4 I like that foundations can be added after the house is build and we don't have to decide where the foundation will go under the house before building it. (That drives me nuts in TS3 because I always forget to do it first, then I'm stuck with a flat house).
I'm sure there's more, but that's what I could think off the top of my head. - NateWhiplash5 years agoSeasoned AceI'm not very good at building, but I'm much better than I used to be--it's part practice, and part research. If you're having problems with a certain thing, there may be a tutorial on it. Or in other words, just google it lol
- Idk I think my best built houses were created in ts4
but at the same time that is mainly because:
in ts1 i just replaced furnitures of existing house with fun gameplay objects thats all i built and anything that did not fit was put outside
in ts2 i didn't care to create anything realistic i would just make big box with disco wallpaper and put all the fave gameplay objects in
didn't matter if the rooms were ridiculously big and there was 50 toilets and you entered the house through bedroom it was full on chaotic evil at that point
ts3 i started trying to build houses somewhat more seriously (well probably cause i was bored with playing)
but i was still stuck making red gothy box house or creating most unnerving glass box i could think of cause idk. emo phase and modern architecture was real cool i suppose
ts4 is probably first time i really felt like trying to make realistic homey nice looking house and make the outsides look cute so now i dare say my builds are starting to look better (well after few years)
but i do miss my ridiculous chaotic evil houses i can't really make with ts4 anymore cause we dont have enough weird fun stuff :( and it makes me feel rather uncreative at times - filipomel5 years agoSeasoned AceNow THIS is an unpopular opinion if I've ever heard one.
- nikkiheathcote955 years agoSeasoned AceHey its alright my sims house always looks like a box no matter what sims game I play ? (I'm really not a good builder at all) I download all the builds I put in my world from the gallery
- Isharell5 years agoSeasoned AceI played Sims 1, 2 and now 4. I find the building options in 4 to be the easiest to use of all of them. OMG the roofs in particular are so much easier, and you can fiddle with them more. I do have a problem remembering that the space between objects doesn't need to be so huge now since the sims are able to move around things more easily. My houses are getting better with 4, which means I build more than ever before. I've even shared a few on the gallery.

I agree, however, like someone else said it's part building, part research. If you're feelings stumped maybe try to research some floor plans that match what you're looking for and build those ^-^ The gallery doesn't usually ever have anything matching my aesthetic, so I feel you. - GalacticGal5 years agoLegend

The learning curve is on the high side with the Sims4 build tools. Try not to despair. After I got the hang of it, so to speak, I got comfortable and I really love the newer stairs they gave us with a patch some time ago. We can now build winder stairs! Or even U-turn staircases.Spoiler

So no that isn't the case for me, building is much easier now. I don't do complicated stuff though. I found it hard to figure out how to raise the foundation for instance when I first tried to build.. although as many are saying with some research I figured out how.
- aejp245 years agoSeasoned AceI actually find the sims 4 really easy to build with. Stairs and balconies can be tricky and it does take some fiddling around but once you get the hang of things the building possibilities are endless.
