I like to play single sims mostly, who have self employed type careers. I play with families too, but I have to say that I find the children a bit tedious because of the requirement for them to go to school everyday. I don't like the regular careers and the school is too much like a career for the kids, so I don't enjoy that either.

crocobauraYou don't have to send teens to school. They'll get an F in school. Big deal. If you don't have the Parenthood, DU or High School packs, there isn't any difference between ending high school with an F versus a C, that I've noticed. If you have the Parenthood pack, they end up with the Irresponsible trait. This makes it a lot harder to advance in formal careers, but if you're not going to play those, that doesn't matter. The other consequence of being Irresponsible is that you have to remind them to do chores, they won't do them autonomously. At the same time, it isn't like the slob trait where they get upset at having to do chores, so it's a pretty trivial consequence. Not sure about the consequences for DU and HSY as I don't have those packs.
