An idea for a company based career system with departments and different Positions
I've been thinking about this for a long time and really want to hear other opinions about it.
Basically, I want the career system to reflect real life companies a bit more. And I don't think the past career system can really allow for that. Instead of offering one career path per skill/interest, there should be a few companies that offer several positions and levels fitting the skills needed to run that company. You could have city/community buildings to offer jobs that don't fit within companies
Part time jobs like janitors and baristas could also be included. Chefs/Kitchen personal could also work at some companies, or in rabbit hole restaurants (until the pack comes out). Mixologists could work at bars. And some careers might work better as freelance careers - which should also receive an overhaul.
I haven't worked out the structure completely yet, it does not include all base game careers or includes all companies I was thinking off and there sure are some questions how to integrate this well.
It's really just an exampleto show what I mean, and I'm interested what others think about this.
EXAMPLE
The Sims Bank:
Finances
- teller, account manager,
IT department
- cyber security, CTO
Management/Finances
- secretary, HR, Accountant, CEO/President
The Sims News:
Journalism/Content Creation
- writer, editor,
- cartoonist, painter, photographer
- advertising
- online moderation
Management & finances Department
-secretary, HR, CEO
IT Department
- scripts, website development, CTO
The Sims Technologies:
IT department
- script writer, software engineer
- game tester, game engineer, game designer
- web developer
Management Department
-secretary, HR, Accountant, CEO
City Hall:
- gardener/landscaper
- community manager/politician
- police
Stadium/Sports Center:
- Player, dancer etc
- Coach, Trainer for different sports
Freelance Ideas
Examples
- gardener/landscaper: active and rabbit hole tasks for other sims and companies, can also sell their own planted items, or take those to plant during tasks to improve rating
- burglars could rob residential and community lots, or even steal items from the open worlds. Can sell them online
- painters could be asked to paint portraits of sims, the environment or just a good painting for an office
- trainer: you could train sims or host sports sessions active or rabbit hole
For Mischief or Robber Careers:
A career with a shady company by a harbor could be interesting. But I also think those things can be implemented in other companies. Like you could work at a bank and just do mischievous things there, perhaps a criminal should be more of a personality trait that opens up opportunities wherever you work.

Instead of offering one career path per skill/interest, there should be a few companies that offer several positions and levels fitting the skills needed to run that company. You could have city/community buildings to offer jobs that don't fit within companies
- each company would have a few departments ( like management, IT, finances and whatever is needed)
- Each department will have a few positions with different levels
- not all paths/positions are 10 levels but and some companies require higher levels than others
- The spots for each positions are also limited, so you can only apply when a spot becomes available
- if you get fired, you can apply to a different company but still use your skill set
- you can get others fired so that positions become available
- if someone in a certain position dies or switches jobs, there could be internal offerings
- you can chose between Part time (PT) and Full time (FT).
- if you want to work with certain skills, you have the option to work at different companies
- different companies would require different entry levels
- With more expansion packs, you could have new companies but also new paths at existing ones
- As for the freelance careers, there could also be tasks that are offered by companies too

Freelance Ideas
- has a better ranking systems
include an overview a pop up like dream home decorator, to see achieved tasks, ratings, comments - tasks from sims and companies
- option to meet other freelancers and have work buddies
- option to do tasks with other freelancers
- rabbit hole and active tasks
- do jobs without tasks and sell those items online
- can find tasks by talking to sims
