An issue with parenthood and the 5 character traits

So while playing parenthood I noticed a bit of an issue is that for some traits you have to try to get them. while others just come naturally from doing things. like for example say you want the irresponsible trait you cant get it without actually trying while doing things naturally will get you the responsible trait. like for example you have to have your kid miss school constantly or break curfew if you want him to have the iresponsible trait and even just pushing the kid will give him some responsiblity so yeah i feel like doing things like normal gets your certain character traits but you have to try to get others.

the traits of the sims themselves can help a lot with some of these, actually. though i haven't checked for anything that lowers responsibility. i have a teen who is both evil and a slob. manners, empathy, emotional control are pretty much always negative for her. wonder if the childish or noncommittal traits would make sims pick actions that lower responsibility

yeah i heard that too actually. but they dont make it go all the way and like i said you would need to have your kid skip a lot of school in order to make have have the iresponsible trait.
  • Well, I'm pretty sure that the developers were aiming for a balance of natural influence versus complete control. Traits clearly have an effect on how these character value traits are developed, but for the most part it's up to the player to form their sims' personalities.
  • helloo!! since i can't open a new thread because i am a new account, please help me here!!!! i have parenthood, the game shows that i have it, i also have the clothing, furniture etc the new parenting skill and toddlers, children and teens have the manners section or so, but nothing is different in the children's or adult's behavior!! like the kids don't have new options to make a mess or anything and they also won't gain any manners, nor negative or positive, they just remain the same :( parents can't dicipline or anyhting, the gameplay is just like in the base game. am i actually so stupid or what is going on? i am so sad, please help me, i have never experienced something like this
i really seem to be the only one experiencing this.. everyone is writing that it changes the game so much and adds so much :( i didn't find EVEN ONE similiar case to mine when i googled it. AND I AM NOT NEW TO SIMS I HAVE BEEN PLAYING SINCE 2004 (i was born in 2001 lol) but PLEASE HELP

Try repairing the game in origin. Also toddlers don't see as much change in their character values. The children and teens are the ones where you can most actively influence what values they gain and lose from Parenting skill. Parenthood is all about the long term game play.
