Back up, back up, back up. Keep your Origin setting to off when it comes to automatic updates. This will give you the chance to pull your mods folder before you allow the game to update. Back up that saves folder before you do ANYTHING. Trust me, I know your pain. I've gotten a rather thick skin over the multitude of mistakes I have made concerning patches and mods. I no longer even know how many times I've restarted my Cantrell save, it's been that many. Don't lose heart. You should have a copy of your Sims in the Gallery under My Library. Just start anew. Maybe even throw in a twist in how you guide the outcome of your story.
