Well if you ignore the fact there has always been a expansion out in time for Christmas sales and the lead of the stuff pack team being moved over to work on expansions clearly to rush it out sooner.
Before stuff pack staff was moved to EPs there were layoffs. Multiple Developers, some even worked on Sims 2, left Maxis with no proper explanation given to the Community. I figured, the Team did this to adapt, because they wouldn't have enough people working on EPs otherwise.
SimGuruDrake wasn't the only one, though she was the one that was discussed the most in the Forums.
I also don't see how they could return to two EPs a year with reduced resources to work with.
Amanda (SimGuruDrake) wasn't laid off -- she left to take another job elsewhere. She was replaced by SimGuruKate. Maybe EA is contracting out some of the work the laid-off developers were doing; that sort of thing is common in the tech industry and has been for years. The last SP we had was the much-maligned My First Pet; maybe after the tepid response to the pack they're rethinking their pack strategy in general.
Personally not a fan of them adding butlers to a stuff pack, should of come with city living, or content clearly removed from cats&dogs to make an extra bit of cash of each sims fan.
it did not feel nice with butlers but my pet was just :o :o :o
