OK, this is what I figured out with the menu. The fridge is needed for base game quick meals, but it doesn't give the specialized ice cream, you must place the ice cream machine. Same for the popcorn, needs the popcorn machine. You will need a microwave for microwaveable items.
The regular black coffee don't need a coffee machine but the cafe coffee needs the expresso machine. Don't really know if it needs the grinder but I added it anyway. I am using the cabinet top expresso machine. However the waitress or cook don't go to any machine and use them. Just needs to be placed somewhere.
I went back to my restaurants and added the items needed to fit the menu. I did have issues with foods not being served and added items as I went along, so that is how I came to the conclusion.
I know for sure, you don't need the wine cooler or bar to get wine. I have a restaurant that don't have either and my sims get wine.
Oh... what?!! So, this could be the reason my sims waited 6 hours for their dessert which I gave up on in the end?
Why haven't EA told us we need these things for certain menu items? It may seem obvious to some, but I just assumed that if an item was on the menu it had been programmed to come from the chef station.
