Out of millions of simmers - it was said less than 1.5 percent could even use CAW and , never mind create a decent world, so the majority of simmers would complain. CAW is not user friendly. I really wonder though if it is possible all those complaints is why we have no form what so ever - not even templates to create new world, not even lot placement. Keep in mind all the build stuff still missing, even CASt, terraine tools, roads, cars, lot placement - all there were constant complaints about in Sims 3 with people demanding user friendlier tools - when the most Maxis can give us is the tools they use - and the fact is most people would not find them user friendly. So because of complaints - we probably will never get them until they design a system in another sims game with a easier to make and use design. Probably won't happen ever the more realistic the get - the more difficult the tools needed - but as long as lots of voices yell it's too hard for me - the less chance they will make that available.
That is what I am upset about - people complain about a game design tool or devs choice of packs and we get less content and tools....
Sims 2 had body shop. Too many complaints and sims 3 didn't have it. People complained of CASt, colors wheel - now we don't have it. People complained Sim 3 cars rotted compared to sims 2 cars. Now we have no cars at all.
I don't think there is any correlation to these things whatsoever, personally.
As far as CAW, I certainly agree it was not user-friendly. However, why would EA scrap it instead of turning that into a goal; simplify CAW so absolutely anybody is able to create amazing worlds with ease. Maybe even bake the tool into the base game itself, and incorporate it into the gallery? To me, that seems logical. Player feedback did not influence the scrapping of this world, because most fans were asking for it to be simplified. Instead, they chose to simplify an already easy-to-use tool; build mode.
I believe a lot of what you are claiming is pure speculation. The two features you've mentioned (cars and CAW) were scrapped due to the change in vision of TS4. Limited time and resources could not allow for them to be shipped with the base game. It's no mystery -- they had to take quite a long time to release standard base game features such as ghosts, toddlers, and pools. As far as small pets goes, we know Small Pets has been a concept EA wanted to do far before Cats & Dogs.
Because they couldn't - they did not own World Builder for one or the company that made it, that owned the patent and for another they did not have to make the tool period - they could have said if we wanted to make worlds the game could use we had to buy our own version of those tool just like we had to own our own version of Sim City 4 to make template for worlds for Sims 2. But they didn't say that - Maya is about 4200 dollars with World Builder plug in another 500 or more - but they did us a courtesy and supplied what they could so at least we had a usable tool. They did not have a right to change it even if they could have changed it - it was not their patent. Sim Guru Smitty who was in charge of World Build for store worlds in Sims 3 was good about answering all our sims questions about CAW. It's not speculation.
Sims 4 did not use World Builder - so CAW would not help you make worlds for Sims 4.
Believe what you want - you can speculate all you want. I just know when ever there has been outrage - there has been elimination in the next rendition. It is there to see and happened every time.
ETA - You're wrong - Sims 4 online had roads just like Sims 3 - you can see the old video - even had cars - but all that was scraped if you read the last interview MTS did with the engine builder of the online version. The world we have now are very different than those designs and do not even have the road system or programming. Look in the programming your self. It's not there now in this version. Totally removed.
But there's been elimination without outrage, too.
I really don't recall outrage over CASt ... but maybe I surrounded myself with other players who absolutely adored it. I did not visit every part of the old forums. Of course, I also didn't hear complaints about open world until after Sims 4 was released (once again I blame myself for not visiting other parts of the old forum besides GG/Store and Creative Corner).
**I'm going to edit this and say I did hear some people complaining Open World caused lag -- but in my circle that was a very low mumbling, there wasn't outrage. That's not to say that in other parts of the forum there was no outrage. I really think no open world (and so no cars) and no CASt was not so much about outrage as about what their plans/ability were with the new game.
I used to help Simmers in Sims 3 "get the lag out of their games"70 percent of the time it was routing issues and I helped them fix their games. But it never failed a lot of the time those simmers looking for help did blame CASt - of course because they kept so much content in their Cast folder of recolors etc - it was huge and slow finding their content - I'd tell them that - but they insisted it also affected their live mode. Most of the time when they would give me a copy of their save I could sort out what actually was creating their lag - and it was always a game issue - especially often moo related placement of things in paths even if it did not appear to be in the path they did not realize sims reacted to the whole square not the moo placement - and that affected their game and created the lag most of the time. Not ever was it a CASt issue though.
JoAnne65@ I have no issues with Sims 3 and I never use mods in that game. (Wait I take that back I do have a skin default but that is it - keeps the kids from looking horrid) It was simply a matter of fixing the troubled worlds. By the way you were using the World editor - not CAW redoing your worlds. Finished games are very hard to get into CAW -unless you have their CAW files. Maxis does not share. But you can alter their worlds to a degree using the world editor - keep in mind the lot placement tool is not your friend often. One or two lots you might be okay - but it has a tendency of breaking routing in your save if you place too many in that editor. Good practice is to save a copy of your save elsewhere before you mess with the World Editor.
