My question is where is all the profit from the sims 3 going? How are they able to split/break up content like this (because of a supposed budget limit) and nickel and dime people when they are still charging full price for the sims 3? I'm positive people are still buying 3 and I have yet to see it on sale on origin, not to mention you can't earn simpoints from watching ads on the store site so you have to pay for all of the simpoints now unless you're lucky enough to have someone gift them to you. I was under the impression that those funds are funding this version.
You seem to assume that EA would just invest the profit in the next version of the same game to please us. But this of course isn’t the way the stockholders want things to work.
EA wants as much profit from any game (and TS4 too) as possible and then invest it in something else which can be very different. Maybe EA will just use it to buy yet another game company which maybe makes sports games or action games or whatever.
Also there isn’t any fairness such that a game will get more stuff or a lower price just because it sells extremely well and thus gives a huge profit because the game company of course just takes this huge profit and use it for whatever it wants. And again: Free stuff or discounts aren’t given to please us. But just to make us more interested such that we buy more from Origin.
So forget all this speculation about “Where do the money go?” and “Don’t we deserve more discounts and free stuff?” because things just don’t work that way ;)
Great points. And I'm not so concerned with free stuff I was more so making it an example that were paying fully for simpoints now (more money going to EA) since they took the ads away from the site where you could earn points unless a friend/family member gifts you simpoints (if that's still possible). But you're right. Maybe just hope of mine haha. But then again it's EA were talking about here. I think they put a lot more into their sports games and advertising tbh
